Hello to all happy BS owners! Today I figured out how to translate texts (only) in mission briefings and campaign description. It's easy and what's more I think it's accomplished by legal way too.

Ok, here we go...

1. Backup your original folder with single missions or all Campaign folder (just for a case you will need tham back one day)

2. Open Mission editor and open the first mission you want to translate

3. Open Mission Briefing dialog (now you see?)

4. Copy and translate the texts from both windows (Descripition and Task)

5. Overwrite them with translated ones

6. That's all :) Pretty easy! Save.

Repeat this with all missions

Now open the Campaign builder

1. Open the Deployment_rus.cmp file

2. With mouse cursor click into the Description window and press Ctrl+A (nothing is higlighted but it is acctually being selected)

3. Use Ctrl+C to extract the text

4. translate it by any favorite translator

5. Return to the Campaign builder - description window, press Ctrl+A and delete

6. Now paste your translated text.

7. Save :)

Now you're done. Ready to start/continue with your campaign.

I did use google translator. It did very satisfying job :)

Happy flying!:pilotfly:

While this procedure translates the main briefing text there are some other things to note :

1) It doesn't translate the pop-up messages in the mission - for that you need to look at each trigger which has a message and translate those too. Some of those missions have a fair bit of extra text so it's not a 5/10 minute job.

2) Online translators aren't terribly good for the most part - once the text is translated that doesn't mean it is understandable!

I did about half the stock missions and part of the first Campaign mission and realised that a) it was taking a long time and b) the results weren't all that great!

Personally, I'd rather wait for EDs professional translation than some half-baked internet one.

But in the meantime, there's nothing stopping us making new missions!

ryuzu I'm sure you speak and read russian very well :) ...

but for others the 80% accuracy of translated text is still better than letters you can't even read.

Of course we all will swap to the western version once it is released, but till then...

Many thanks Doggy, you are a star! :)

Just been messing around with the mission editor. I'm trying to create a simple mission so that I can practice ramp starts, take off and follow a few waypoints. I can add a KA-50 and all it's waypoints etc but when I try to fly the mission, I can't get into the helo, just external views. Also, the helo seems to fly itself after a while?? Any ideas?

I can't read/write or speak Russian - I can drive an internet translator though. Below is an example of the result from one mission :-

"Thank you! Help out!

I am here is dead on the rise ... The report will be sure to mention those state headquarters matchasti."

If you feel this level of translation is better than something completely unintelligible, then I salute you since to me there is no difference - it may as well be in Russian ;)

Anyway, the pirates have had an easy enough time - why give them this final step for free.... If you're going to translate don't put it anywhere obvious eh?

You have to set the heli as "Player" rather than AI.

Any idea where you actually select this?

Edit> ok, I got there in the end ;)

Nice work Doggy

Bit OT, but does anyone know how to start the campaign in a cold and dark state? Is this possible or would I have to edit the Campaign file?

CrashEd, again through the mission editor...

Find your chopper on the map, click on it, select "start from parking" (or similar, not sure now) instead of start from runway.

But you already know that, i think :)

Yep, it was in that saw-dust filled brain somewhere ;) :D

Thanks for that mate. I'm starting to get the hang of this :)

I never did any mission building/editing in FC/LOMAC, so it's all new to me. Quite looking forward to doing some mission building...
