I think you hit the nail on the head as it is a huge challenge to start with. I was expecting something digital, but I can see myself really appreciating the analog feel it has. I don't mind a challenge and I can see there is a lot of information on how to fly it. Thank you for your honest reply. I will have to try the Viggen one day. Cheers! I mainly wanted to see what made this module great and the community here has been really helpful.

One of the biggest differences between the F14 and most of the other fighters that we have in the game is the lack of a DFCS. At 15 or more units of AOA you need to roll the plane mostly with rudders. It's just the nature of it's design, the shaking of the cockpit will tell you how many AoA you're pulling and you don't even need to look at the gauge once you get the hang of it. I find it to have one of the best flight models in the game.

The instructor does tell you to switch to the RIO cockpit...

So you do agree that it's both mission bug as it is user not following the guide. I think I remember devs explaining that they did not find the workaround for this.

I changed my cockpit to look black, and I am able to read the lettering much better but still hard with TrackIR at certain switches. Looking at a few videos on what exactly does what in the cockpit also helped get familiar with everything.  I've also been playing without sound actually. I'm listening to training videos on various aspects of the plane. I was finding the noises distracting when learning to fly it, but now that I have the hang of it, I'll definitely take the helmet off and let her rip, rattle, and roll. Technically, I've been doing it visually, you can still see the shake and I've also noticed rudder pedals in turns definitely help more in the F14, thanks for that!

Strange, it was pretty game breaking for me and I can see a very easy way to fix it. Basically either force the view after <Spacebar> is hit or push an error, telling the user to switch to the other view. Not a big deal for me anymore since the cockpit actually loads and it was just a bug. Should be fixed imo. I feel sorry for the next guy...

Here is a really great and informative video on how to effectively maneuver the F14:

Thank you, great bit of theory for the F14! I especially enjoyed the flat spin recovery lesson, though it doesn't always work. I've also heard that the POH for the F14 says to rudder with the spin not against it - which is really interesting.

Like I said, if there was a simple fix they'd probably fixed it already. Otoh totally not priority bug as it works fine if you do what is told and the "fix" is to press "2" key. You can actually spoil any mission and training by not doing what is asked.

Sure, every mission is trigger based programming.  Maybe it's not a priority, not a simple fix, but its still game breaking.
