Paver Posted September 13, 2021 Posted September 13, 2021 Essentially new to digital flight on DCS. Without a means to track air adversaries it's impossible to keep sight. I have been considering VR. Please jump in and advise your experience and what you use to help keeping track of adversaries. Thinking of buying the Oculus system.
BitMaster Posted September 14, 2021 Posted September 14, 2021 1: I'd try one out before I'd buy one. Most love it but some, incl. me, can't overcome nausea after a few minutes and can't use VR as it is as of now. 2: Make sure your system can handle VR at your desired LOD. Paver Posted September 14, 2021 Author Posted September 14, 2021 System can handle it easy, but Nausea, now that is interesting. What system do you use for keeping visual of an air adversary.
RED Posted September 15, 2021 Posted September 15, 2021 For DCS, the HP Reverb G2 is still the go to headset. RTX3080/RX6800XT or better is recommended. Nausea will likely be there during the first couple of flights. For me it was really bad. If you immediately stop when you get sick you will get used to it. Currently I feel no effects from using VR. Other options are various headtracker using opentrack or the more expensive TrackIr.

As I have an i5-9600k overclocked to 4.8Ghz, a RTX3090, AIO Watercooling solution, and a NVME M2 SSD 1 TB and I'm still struggling with DCS World and using the G2. Don't under-estimate the system requirements for VR. They are HUGE. Specs: Win10, i5-13600KF, 32GB DDR4 RAM 3200XMP, 1 TB M2 NVMe SSD, KFA2 RTX3090, VR G2 Headset, Warthog Throttle+Saitek Pedals+MSFFB2 Joystick.
sirrah Posted September 17, 2021 Posted September 17, 2021 Reverb user here with "just" a 1080ti and perfectly happy with that (at least until GPU prices drop). Definitely no need for a 3080 or 6800 to enjoy DCS in VR. As stated in the first reply, it's all about your expectations on level of detail. Personally I won't touch any Oculus product anymore, because I don't have and don't want a FaceBook account (as I heard is necessary for Oculus software to run). Had the cv1 once and enjoyed it back then, but now I'd advise the Reverb (2nd hand G1, or G2 new) As for nausea; Sure, you might get dizzy at start, but that'll probably go a way in no time. Fwiw, personally I never experienced any nauseating effect, unless something was really wrong (usually performance or "me" related), like way too low fps, jitters, suddenly going from 6-DOF to 3-DOF due to loss of tracking. Used PSVR, Rift cv1, VIVE and now Reverb G1. Trying VR could be a way to find out, but make sure to have enough time to properly get used to VR. If you do feel nausea, you might need to put the headset off and try again later. (friend of mine once sat down in my VR seat, he pretty much started sweating instantaneously when trying out Assetto Corsa and had to take a break before trying again. After 30 mins he was completely turned over and I he didn't want to leave my playseat for a few hours ) System specs: i7-8700K @stock speed - GTX 1080TI @ stock speed - AsRock Extreme4 Z370 - 32GB DDR4 @3GHz- 500GB SSD - 2TB nvme - 650W PSU HP Reverb G1 v2 - Saitek Pro pedals - TM Warthog HOTAS - TM F/A-18 Grip - TM Cougar HOTAS (NN-Dan mod) & (throttle standalone mod) - VIRPIL VPC Rotor TCS Plus with ALPHA-L grip - Pointctrl & aux banks <-- must have for VR users!! - Andre's SimShaker Jetpad - Fully adjustable DIY playseat - VA+VAICOM - Realsimulator FSSB-R3 ~ That nuke might not have been the best of ideas, Sir... the enemy is furious ~ GUMMBAH
