magicdragon_88 Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 (edited) hello and first off- great sim. only problem is that it runs horribly on my pc...my pc specs are: amd64x2 4600+ 2.4ghz 2gig ram OC 8800GT WinXP pro 32bit i cannot get anything higher than 22fps in the game-14 fps on the ground..around 18-20 fps while in the air...all options set to low and cockpit res 256..no anti aliasing or AF..and changing resolution down from 1280x1024 to 1024x768 does not give me a fps boost...so i pretty much play with horrible detail and still get a lousy 22fps at most....i got new video card drivers...anyone know what might be wrong? Edited November 17, 2008 by magicdragon_88
Shrubbo Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 I don't know much about the rest (I run intel stuff) but I do know that your vid card was a good bang for buck card .... a year ago. I know this because I was looking for the best bang for buck exactly one year ago and I ended up with one of them. To look at it another way a year ago the 8800 gt was not the fastest but was great value for money. A year be a long time in the vid card world. Coincidentally only the day before yesterday I just ripped out the gt and threw in a gtx 260 oc for a cheaper price then I payed for the gt a year ago. That's progress. It was great a year ago.... not so good now. i9-9900K,Z390 Aorus Master, 32GB GSkill Trident F4-3600 DDR4, ROG Strix RTX 2080 Ti, Oculus Rift S. Thrustmaster Warthog T&S, TPR Pedals.
slug88 Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 I have the following system: Intel E6750 @ 3.2GHz 2gb ram 8800GTS 320mb winxp pro 32 At 1680x1050, all settings high except water (medium), I'm getting around 30 fps most of the time. So, that 8800 can't be the problem. At resolutions that low and all settings at low, you should get outstanding fps with that card. So, I'm guessing that there must be a serious problem somewhere else. Perhaps a virus is sucking up all your resources, or a virus scanner, or other programs running in the background? Also, have you enabled "Run in Full Screen" in the options? That gave me a few extra FPS. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
magicdragon_88 Posted November 17, 2008 Author Posted November 17, 2008 nope- no viruses on my pc...yea... the full screen option does not increase my fps.....it seems like my fps is capped at 20 when im flying around...20 on the ground, 20 in the air, VERY rarely i get 25fps-but just for a few seconds in view of little terrain.(vis range set to low)...even if i set all setting to LOW and switch RESOLUTION to low- i do not get increase in fps :(! i thought i could atleast play on worst graphics but get 30fps- i was wrong
Doggy Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 make sure your water setting is low or =1 in lua file. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] C2D E4500@3GHz + Scythe Katana , 2GB/800, GF9600GT@720 (GV-NX96T512HP), Cyborg Evo, Freetrack (2.2), Samsung 20" @1680x1050, Fortron BSII 400W (peak 430W), Win7 HP x64
magicdragon_88 Posted November 17, 2008 Author Posted November 17, 2008 can you tell me which file that is? and how to open that lua file? maybe any other suggestions?
Kuky Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 you're 100% CPU limited (sign of lowering resolution makes no framerate increase). I suggest you double check you're not using medium/high scenery and you use low and use medium water quality. magicdragon_88 Posted November 17, 2008 Author Posted November 17, 2008 yea i double checked- and running low scenery...water is on mdeium- but i just want to know if i can lower water detail even more...anyone know how to open lua.dll? i found the file but when i open with notepad- its a bunch of gibberish..im guessing i need some program to view it properly
Kuky Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 you're not suposed to change DLL files (and you can't) LUA is file extension... not file name, same as DLL extension. I think they mean Graphics.lua (maybe Graphics.cfg, but I can't check as I don't have BS yet, in LO/FC it's graphics.cfg file) PC specs: Windows 11 Home | Asus TUF Gaming B850-Plus WiFi | AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D + LC 360 AIO | MSI RTX 5090 LC 360 AIO | 55" Samsung Odyssey Gen 2 | 64GB PC5-48000 DDR5 | 1TB M2 SSD for OS | 2TB M2 SSD for DCS | NZXT C1000 Gold ATX 3.1 1000W | TM Cougar Throttle, Floor Mounted MongoosT-50 Grip on TM Cougar board, MFG Crosswind, Track IR
ZaltysZ Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 Make sure you are running in full screen mode. If you forget to turn that switch on and your desktop resolution is the same as in game, it will look like full screen, however there will be no more than 30 fps. Wir sehen uns in Walhalla.
magicdragon_88 Posted November 17, 2008 Author Posted November 17, 2008 i have checked the FULL SCREEN option in game- and game resolution is the same as my desktop res..i now get 23-28fps.. not a bad boost- but still i cannot reach that 30fps mark that everyone's talking about...::( is there anyway to change the water detail to LOW instead of medium somehow? like in cfg file or something?
r-unit Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 Format computer using xppro, 32 bit... re-install everything.:) that sucks but it works.
Allo Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 amd64x2 4600+ 2.4ghz 2gig ram OC 8800GT WinXP pro 32bit I have a similar set up as you but will be running 8800GT in SLI and my CPU is an AMD64x2 3ghz. I would have thought your problem was the CPU. Since they say that the sim is CPU intensive. Didn't the Test machine DCS use, have a 8800GT? If the problem is hardware, my guess is the CPU. magicdragon_88 Posted November 17, 2008 Author Posted November 17, 2008 i checked the box PLAY IN FULL SCREEN in BS- got a boost of around 7 fps ( now running at 23-28fps which is much better- but anyway to reach that 30 mark by tweaking some stuff?
magicdragon_88 Posted November 17, 2008 Author Posted November 17, 2008 thnx doggy- wiil try tweaking lua file
magicdragon_88 Posted November 17, 2008 Author Posted November 17, 2008 holy crap!!!! got it to work nice!!!!! i did what doggy said and changed from ["water"] = 2 to ["water"] = 1 and now i can play with scenery HIGH, VIS range MEDIUM- textures high, 2xAA 1024 cockpit textures and it runs 28-32fps!!!!!!! thnx so much guys- now i can spend some time playing the game instead of tweaking it non stop!!!! :)

Feuerfalke Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 Do you experience the low FPS in general or when using the SHKVAL-Sensors? If you do in general, you may check your HDD-light on your PC-case. If it's constantly flickering or steady on, that's means you use a lot of swap-disk, which slows down performance dramatically. Reinstalling windows is one thing, but you can simply check a few things before doing that: a) be sure to have enough space on your system-partition (usually = c:) - especially Vista increases swapfiles rather quickly. If you can, check the diskspace directly after quitting BS. b) in order to decrease this, set your Swap-file to a given limit. IIRC Vista recommends to have a swapfile set at least as large as your RAM. (You can do that in ControlPanel - System - Advanced - Performance -> Settings - Advanced. Be sure both options are set to "Programs" - click change to change the Swapfile. You have to restart for the changes to take effect. c) download and run "hijackthis2" - but handle with care! This tool is very usefull for identifying programs and processes running in the background as well as it is usefull to permamently damage windows, if you don't know what you're doing! d) Check the CD that came with your motherboard for a testing-tool that can read out CPU- and System-temperatures. Run them while running the game to be sure your PC does not slow itself down due to overheating. Remove dust if it does or install additional fans, run the case open, etc. There are also freeware tools to test this, like CPU-burnin for CPU-stresstesting and CoreTemp, which works on almost any PC. If you problem mostly starts with active sensors: Lower cockpit texture resolution. Aparently it also lowers the resolution of the SHKVAL, which increases FPS dramatically, if that is a problem. magicdragon_88 Posted November 17, 2008 Author Posted November 17, 2008 thnx repent..arnt u the guy from youtube? :P im unkowndrunkenfrankli..but is it only me or when u change water detail to 1- the scenery detail also goes down? the colours look more ...flat...anyone agree?
magicdragon_88 Posted November 17, 2008 Author Posted November 17, 2008 thnx Feuerfalke..i experianced low fps in general-not only when using shkval..but i think i got it to run as smooth as i want it to (steady 30fps) with high scenery and med vis range+water = 1..
repent Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 unknowndrunkenfrankli??? and no my colours dont go flat, it looks great
Feuerfalke Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 If you deactivate haze (set it to 0) there are some other effects lost, too. At least that's the way it was in LockOn. repent Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 yes you are probably right feuerfalke, but the only thing i have noticed so far is that i have no propwash, which i can live without in order to get some good fps
