bonesvf103 Posted October 20, 2021 Posted October 20, 2021 This is a carry over from another thread that I'm continuing here since it didn't really fit that thread. So I'm wondering about the Phoenix and its mechanics in the cockpit. 1. If I have the Phoenix selected and STT or PDSTT a target and then fire it, does the missile guide so far and then go active? Or does it basically become an expensive Sparrow? 2. If that particular missile lock is lost, will the missile switch to active? 3. If I have the ACM cover up in the front seat, and I put the gun cross on a target or in that target area, will the missile go active off the rail and hunt what was in that cross or cross area? 4. Is PH ACT in the backseat the equivalent of the ACM cover up in the front seat? 5. If I lock a target in the backseat then select PH ACT, will the missile go after that locked target pitbull off the bat? Thanks. v6, boNes "Also, I would prefer a back seater over the extra gas any day. I would have 80 pounds of flesh to eat and a pair of glasses to start a fire." --F/A-18 Hornet pilot

It kinda becomes an expensive Sparrow in PD-STT with the AIM-54As and AIM-54C currently. Idk if it might change with the AIM-54C going active on its own implementation but we'll have to wait on that. This is only PD-STT btw and not P-STT. 30 minutes ago, bonesvf103 said: 2. If that particular missile lock is lost, will the missile switch to active? For all the AIM-54 variants currently, no. The AIM-54C will go active on its own in the future though. 30 minutes ago, bonesvf103 said: 3. If I have the ACM cover up in the front seat, and I put the gun cross on a target or in that target area, will the missile go active off the rail and hunt what was in that cross or cross area? If the target is within 10 miles yes. But currently in my testing and experience, it feels like the ACM cover up actually causes missiles to not go active on a target within 10 miles 8/10 of the launches I do. 30 minutes ago, bonesvf103 said: 4. Is PH ACT in the backseat the equivalent of the ACM cover up in the front seat? Yes and no. This doesn't have a range limitation of 10nms. In DCS it's similar to P-STT (without the hard locking bit since you can use it in TWS) in which it will go active on the target after a predeterminate amount of time and distance. 30 minutes ago, bonesvf103 said: 5. If I lock a target in the backseat then select PH ACT, will the missile go after that locked target pitbull off the bat? Technically yes. It will go active on the target after a predeterminate amount of time and distance which means that it will fly straight until 10 or so miles and do an abrupt turn to meet the target. This is down to limitations of DCS. Hope this should answer your questions. bonesvf103 Posted November 2, 2021 Author Posted November 2, 2021 Thanks all. If I have Phoenixes in flight in SARH being guided by TWS, awaiting them going pitbull, then I flip the ACM cover up or in the RIO seat selecty PH ACT, will this affect the Phoenixes in flight or just the next ones fired? v6, boNes "Also, I would prefer a back seater over the extra gas any day.
