BitMaster Posted November 14, 2021 Posted November 14, 2021 (edited) We have been over this to death and back again in the past but I think Hiob is right..or more right than false...LoL here we go again. And Bossco's experience with not having it in 10, than having it after upgrading to 11 and then getting rid off it with a downgrade to 10 again does not sound as a per se hardware related time slice ( locked 60 fps ) issue but more like a software/setting issue to me. Yes, as I said. I have no reliable data on this issue. Sorry! Regarding W11, I think one need to go through every menu and sub menu and review every setting…as always with a new windows. And not only because of trackir. I‘m still reluctant but I think, once you made the move, you should invest some time in setting it up proper before rolling back. Bossco82 Posted November 15, 2021 Posted November 15, 2021 If I bloated this thread I am really sorry. I had a bad head cold in the week and was passing time on some forums and watching boxsets. I'm fine now. I had a problem with Track IR last year on Windows 10 using my old 2080ti. I never worked out what exactly fixed it but I did fix it. I was killing time and simply curious to read about Hiob's experiences. As for Windows 11. I did not deep dive the problem to see what was wrong. I also use an AMD system and it was just after the AMD performance fix got released. I genuinely could not be bothered to look for the cause, so I just rolled back. The only thing I came away from that with was the fact Windows 11 was showing a performance problem at that time. I will try to finish this thread with something useful. DCS at 4k res, you will probably use high detail otherwise what is the point. No such thing as a minimum graphics card, LOL! You need a big one, likely from Nvidia as of now.
Hiob Posted November 15, 2021 Posted November 15, 2021 @R.Z. Regarding your original question: A 3060 Ti should be sufficiant to play DCS with a reasonable framerate in 4K - IF you are willing (as you stated) to make certain compromises regarding the visual fidelity. However, you will most likely occasionally drop below 60 fps on the marianas map (so do I with my 3080, with high to very high settings). Personally I think, that's no big deal and not a problem at all, once you focus on actual playing and turn off or ignore the fps-counter. There are of course, people that regard everything below 100 fps as unplayable - make up your own mind. Two other options that are somewhat expendable in favour of a decent framerate (imho) are water "high" and mirrors. Both have a meaningful impact on fps. So consider turning them off/ to medium. Thanks, that was what I've imagined. Unfortunately my patience worn out in the last two weeks. I found RX580 plain un-playable for scenarios like A-10C with TGP and MAV screens turned on even in 1080p. Both 3060Ti and 6700XT are currently priced rather steeply in my region, and an opportunity in the form of Powercolor RX6600XT at a relatively reasonable $500 presented itself to me. So I took bait (after checking media reviews for RX6600XT to be quite positive)... I've since found out RX6600XT can average slightly above 40fps in 4K High on my TV, and easily over 100fps in 1080p Ultra on my old PC monitor. Should be able to maintain 60fps+ in 1440p High I think. And boy this RNDA2 card is so cool and quite (and tiny). 125w and ~70degC max in DCS with fans barely audible (often not even turned on during gaming). I guess that's generation gap in GPU efficiency. Not a bad purchase, especially that I managed to sold my old RX580 for $300 (same price I paid for it 3+ years ago). Anyways, I guess I'll happily stay with 1080p or perhaps 2K for now, while start a long but casual wait for RX6800 reference card or next-gen equivalent
Bossco82 Posted November 23, 2021 Posted November 23, 2021 That a nice setup there. Don't think the choice taking a 6600xt at the right price was a bad one at all. I tested resolutions on a 4k TV too and for me it matched what a dedicated monitor would produce. So you can use that to test 1440p performance. Since your on Radeon, you could always try frame rate control if you ever get access to a Freesync monitor.
