How Do "Metric" Coordinates Work?

I don't understand the X and Z coordinate system.   X and Z in relation to what?

At first I thought perhaps X-0 Z-0 was the map center, but it's not really even close.  In Caucasus it's up near Sevastapool.

Does anyone know what this system is called and how it works ... at least at a high-level?

Thank you.

That would make sense, considering the initial games of the franchise took place in Crimea...

Remember the world in DCS: World is flat. The coordinate system being used is 2 dimensional... just sayin'

Oh so it IS based on an arbitrary map point?

Do you know what a point equals?  The units seem pretty small, perhaps down to the centimeter?

necroposting...almost.

I also have issues with the way the grids are taken.

For instance, MOOSE script uses that kind of coordinates;

{ [1]={["y"]=242140.57142858,["x"]=-6478.8571428583,},

[2]={["y"]=242188.57142858,["x"]=-6522.0000000011,},

[3]={["y"]=244124.2857143,["x"]=-4344.0000000011,},

[4]={["y"]=244068.2857143,["x"]=-4296.5714285726,},

[5]={["y"]=242140.57142858,["x"]=-6480.0000000011,} }, },

How was that converted to a regular X and Z format from DCS ?

Gotta convert it from LO to LL and then from LL to MGRS. Really those 4 functions can be used to convert to the 3 main types used. Different LL values is simply string formatting.

BTW, I just saw on YouTube that the world *IS* flat, so maybe DCS just knew before everyone else?
