If you don't care about rgb, you can find cheaper Ripjaws with same timings here: https://benzhaomin.github.io/bdiefinder/

+1  That's what I did too. Skip the LED and save some bucks...and the LED controller software that usually only causes headaches

Sorry, but I'm a bit confused by something I've read in this thread.  Am I right in understanding that with my 5600X I can use 4x16GB single-rank RAM, but should stay away from 4x16GB dual-rank?  Can the Ryzen 5 memory controller only handle 4 total ranks?

I'm building a system now and already have the 5600X and a B550 MOBO.  I also have a G.Skill Trident Neo kit (4x16GB/3466MHz, single rank) but that kit was free, and I wouldn't be opposed to upgrading the RAM eventually if I can gain the 6-9% CPU numbers I've seen tossed around in this thread.

I'm in the same boat.  How is this for a good build out?

Never built a PC but can learn anything.

I've been following this thread.

Not sure of which case yet but how am I doing so far?

DCS Dedicated at this point.

Who knows what other games I might try.

I'd like to stay around 4K including HOTAS

I'd also like to get the best VR setup possible.

VR ? If you decide to go there , you should get the best GPU you can afford .

I personally would not consider a 3060 for a new VR build .

And in any case , you will almost immediately find a 500 gb ssd to be inadequate .

9700k @ stock , Aorus Pro Z390 wifi , 32gb 3200 mhz CL16 , 1tb EVO 970 , MSI RX 6800XT Gaming X TRIO , Seasonic Prime 850w Gold , Coolermaster H500m , Noctua NH-D15S , CH Pro throttle and T50CM2/WarBrD base on Foxxmounts , CH pedals , Reverb G2v2

yep, that GPU wont cut it, neither in 4K nor VR.

500GB will also likely be not enough. My DCS is ~324GB alone and I dont even own all modules. So 500GB formatted to NTFS +Win10/11 + DCS = already near maxed out.

Get minimum a 250GB for the OS and a 500GB for DCS, or bigger. I would preferably pick NVMe and skip the cables and such hassle of 2.5" drives

PSU...since you definitely need a bigger GPU to get the experience you want you could&should reconsider the PSU. I would rather get 850w and maybe Platinum rated.

Yeah Bitmaster and Svsmokey are correct on both counts. My DCS install is 312gb and I dont own all the modules either. I would save and get a 1tb if you can. DCS is only going to grow over the next year if you buy more modules. I have used Sabrent, Corsair and Crucial. If the drive is just for DCS a Crucial P2 Nvme will do the job just fine.

The power supply you put there would be ok. Like Bitmaster said platinum is the best, but if you want to save a few pennies for the GPU. I use a Corsair TX850m gold rated and that powers my system with a AMD 6800xt, the GPU is your toughest call there. For VR a 3060 will struggle unless you turn some graphics settings down.

Maybe consider 12600k, MSI Z690 DDR4, 64gb DDR4 for multiplayer, try to stretch to a 3070 but a 3080 is the proper call for VR in DCS.
