redboot Posted December 21, 2021 Posted December 21, 2021 I can't figure this out. At every stage of flight and at any speed or altitude, I'm experiencing significant side slippage that even full (10%?) left rudder trim won't correct. I know the engine power pulls the aircraft a bit to the side, but I thought speed would correct most of that so that only a little trim would be necessary. But I put the rudder trim full left and the trim bubble won't center. I figure I'm missing something obvious, but I can't figure out what. Any advice would be appreciated.
razo+r Posted December 21, 2021 Posted December 21, 2021 (edited) Amount of forces change with changing speed, so while one trim setting might work for a certain speed, a slight deviation of that speed and you have to retrim it. Constantly. And the amount of trim is dependant on speed, configuration and engine settings. Also, you have to apply rudder in the direction of the ball, which in the 51 is more often than not right rudder and not left, if I'm not mistaken. Edited December 21, 2021 by razo+r
redboot Posted December 21, 2021 Author Posted December 21, 2021 Thanks, but I'm familiar with all that. What I'm trying to convey is that I can't center the ball using trim. Full left trim gets it about half way to the center. Right trim just makes it worse.
razo+r Posted December 21, 2021 Posted December 21, 2021 Then that sounds more like your rudder does unwanted input. Check your axis and controls.
Art-J Posted December 21, 2021 Posted December 21, 2021 Apart from what razo+r said, I would check the other usual suspects: a) game flight mode enabled in gameplay options? Trims don't work with that one; b) any FFB controllers plugged in even if not used in DCS? These have a history of making trims inop, although I don't know it still happens in current version of DCS; c) auto-rudder enabled in special options? I don't kow if it would affect trim as well, but it's worth investigating. 1 i7 9700K @ stock speed, single GTX1070, 32 gigs of RAM, TH Warthog, MFG Crosswind, Win10.
redboot Posted December 21, 2021 Author Posted December 21, 2021 Fiddling with the axis settings did the trick. Thanks for your help. 1
