Ebphoto Posted March 2, 2022 Posted March 2, 2022 (edited) Hello, I’m hoping someone can help me with a couple of things I’m having issues with. The first is when I’m in the ME & select add static template under the Russian category I used to have multiple SAMs I could select from. I deleted one by accident & now none of them show up any more no matter what I do. Is there a way to get these back? I’d hate to have to reinstall everything. Also, I’m not sure if this is related but in the instant action for any Navel aircraft, the ships are missing when I go into the actual mission to fly it. For instance in the CAT1 landing or even a take off instant action the plane will fall into the ocean because there’s no ship! Last, when I select a vehicle in the mission editor it shows it on the map wherever I place it but then they won’t show up in the mission! I go out of the mission & back into the editor & they show up on the map again. No matter what I do I can’t get them to show in the actual mission. I’m so confused. The only MODs I have installed are the A4, Gripen & a couple of other aircraft MODs, not much else except aircraft liveries & some missions I’ve downloaded fm the DCS website. Also, I’ve tried the repair DCS program & it didn’t make a difference. This is on the Open beta latest released build. Any help would be much appreciated. I’m really hoping I don’t have to reinstall since it takes forever to download all the theaters & aircraft etc. Thank you, E Edited March 2, 2022 by Ebphoto

Hi, here is how to restore the unit templates: 41 minutes ago, Ebphoto said: Also, I’m not sure if this is related but in the instant action for any Navel aircraft, the ships are missing when I go into the actual mission to fly it. Just rename the /saved games/dcs.openbeta/mods folder to mods.bak … that will disable them. Rename mods.bak to just mods, to restore them later. 41 minutes ago, Ebphoto said: Also, I’ve tried the repair DCS program & it didn’t make a difference. the dcs repair utility only examines the dcs program folder, it wont touch your saved games folder and thus can’t solve any issue that is caused by a typical user mod. Ebphoto Posted March 5, 2022 Author Posted March 5, 2022 Hey Thank you! So I did the LUA thing and it seemed to fix the items not showing up on the map in the ME or they show up in the SIM now. The only thing that seems a bit off is when I select the USA or Russia etc ALL the planes aren't showing up, even the purchased modules that I own like the F14 or Mirage etc/ Some do but others do not. Any Ideas? I also Disabled ALL the MODs I installed. I will put them back one at a time. Thanks, E

I will put them back one at a time. make sure that you dont have the historic filter enabled on the mission editor, as it will prevent units showing up if the mission date does not match their actual in-service years, for example the F-14 wont show up after 2006. AstonMartinDBS Posted April 10, 2022 Posted April 10, 2022 (edited) I have the same problem as the OP: I accidentally removed some of my templates by clicking on the "-" right next to the dropdown, but the hint from @Rudel_chw didn't work for me as expected. Deleting/renaming the file templates.lua from {DCS installation path}\MissionEditor\data\scripts and running a repair restored the file, but the deleted templates are still missing: I've tried this solution (deleting/ranaming the file template.lua from the directory %USERPROFILE%\Saved Games\DCS\MissionEditor\) also, but it didn't restore the deleted templates as well. I am still missing the templates for the FARP units for instance. BTW: I'm running the current OB. BUT IT RESTORES THE CURRENT VERSION ... and the current version of the default Group Templates does not include FARPs (unfotunately). Back in February the file contained 23 templates, but the current version (April) has almost double (40), but for some reason ED eliminated some of the old templates while adding the new ones .. the current file has these templates: As a side note, even tough both are named Templates.lua; the file located at /Saved Games/ is not the same file as the one within the DCS program folder. It contains only those Group Templates created by yourself. On the Mission Editor the templates apear on a unified listing, but your custom ones appear in grey, while ED's appear in light green, like this: Edited April 10, 2022 by Rudel_chw For work: iMac mid-2010 of 27" - Core i7 870 - 6 GB DDR3 1333 MHz - ATI HD5670 - SSD 256 GB - HDD 2 TB - macOS High Sierra For Gaming: 34" Monitor - Ryzen 3600 - 32 GB DDR4 2400 - nVidia RTX2080 - SSD 1.25 TB - HDD 10 TB - Win10 Pro - TM HOTAS Cougar Mobile: iPad Pro 12.9" of 256 GB

It's very strange, that ED removed some of the templates, including the one for easy pupulating FARPs. 1 hour ago, Rudel_chw said: As a side note, even tough both are named Templates.lua; the file located at /Saved Games/ is not the same file as the one within the DCS program folder. I have a large collection of STATIC Templates, most of which I've already shared on the User Files section. But I actually do not use GROUP Templates much, because they have these disadvantages: a) Group Templates can only consist of a single group of ground units. This means they can not contain ship or aircraft units, and they can not include static objects, both of which are huge limitations in my opinion. b) Group Templates are actually a set of LUA statements within a single Templates.lua file. This means that they are very difficult to share with other users, unlike the Static Templates, where each template is contained on an individual file, easily shareable. But static templates have at least one great disatvantage, too: they're map-bound. Maybe ED will find a way to combine the advantages of the group and static templates. 10 hours ago, Rudel_chw said: I have a large collection of STATIC Templates, most of which I've already shared on the User Files section. Thank you - I'll check them out! It wasn't easy to find your templates via filtering by user name due to your modified name in the user files section (Rudel-chw). BTW: I'm already using your carrier templates since month, they're fantastic!
