cwarre9 Posted March 9, 2022 Posted March 9, 2022 (edited) I've been having random issues updating DCS World (both stable and open beta) for a while. Found that if I ran as "administrator" I could update the stable version, but when I try to install the Syria Map I get the following (this is a partial screen shot and spelling error is in the error message). 00000.273 INFO : branch: 00000.275 STATUS: Downloading version info... 00000.305 ERROR: Conection to server 'cdn.digitalcombatsimulator.com' failed: Couldn't resolve host name 00000.305 STATUS: Servers are unable to complete your request. Please, try again later. 00002.968 === Log closed. Tried disabling Windows Defender and Windows Firewall but get the same error message. I was able to install the map in the beta version. Any help is appreciated. Cliff "Gadgets" Edited March 9, 2022 by cwarre9
Flappie Posted March 9, 2022 Posted March 9, 2022 Hi. You need to understand what's happening in your local network. Install Wireshark (free and open source, high quality software) Run Wireshark and record your network activity (10 minute long tutorial here) Run a DCS update, and wait until it closes down. Stop Wireshark recording. Save what you recorded, zip the file and attach it here. ---
cwarre9 Posted March 11, 2022 Author Posted March 11, 2022 Flappie: New stuff for me. Appreciate the assistance. I stopped the capture right after the download failed. For this run, I did NOT turn off Windows Defender antivirus or firewall protection. Thanks again Gadgets DCS Update Failure.zip
Flappie Posted March 11, 2022 Posted March 11, 2022 Great. As you can see here, the DCS server sends TCP duplicate ACK signals, which says he didn't have an answer to his last "question" (black lines): I think you're having a similar issue to the one @341-Ces (hey mate!) had in 2020. We'll then use the same tools to find what's shutting down coms with DCS servers in your PC. Step 1 - Ensure you're having some firewall rule blocking DCS Access the Windows Defender Firewall with Advanced Security menu ("Parefeu Windows Defender avec fonction avancées de sécurité" in French - I see you have a Livebox, French, right?). Action > Properties > select "Public Profile" tab In the bottom "Logging" section, click "Customize...". Set "Log dropped packets" to "Yes" ("Enregistrer les paquets enregistrés" à "Oui"). Apply. Reproduce the DCS updater issue. Open "C:\Windows\system32\LogFiles\Firewall\pfirewall.log" file and see if you have lines containing the word "DROP". If you do, please attach the file here. ---
cwarre9 Posted March 13, 2022 Author Posted March 13, 2022 Flappie: Thanks again. Not sure where the French thing is coming from. Only other "language" I'm qualified in is Morse Code, and slow at that. I ran the steps you listed, but when I try to open the file, it's empty. Tried several times and the file date/time stamp does not update. Tried setting all the logging options to "Yes" then restarting computer, and get the attached report. There are several DROP lines, some look like their between the multiple computers in my home network (based on IP address info). Others I'm not familiar with. Once again, I appreciate the assistance. Flappie Posted March 13, 2022 Posted March 13, 2022 Nevermind the French parenthesis. It looks like traffic between local IP adresses indeed, not like internet traffic. It would seem there is no firewall rule preventing DCS to update itself. Maybe it is a simple router issue. Can you try rebooting your router, just in case? ---
cwarre9 Posted March 13, 2022 Author Posted March 13, 2022 Well, simple things first. That fixed it. What a mess. Really appreciate the assistance. Cliff
Flappie Posted March 13, 2022 Posted March 13, 2022 Excellent! This router issue usually generates different symptoms. Thanks for your feedback. 1 ---
