I have been reading about the FMC in the manual which has a lot of info in there about it. I was wondering, we have ability to assign FMC Release to a button on HOTAS.

Is it currently needed for the Apache and in practicality why would we use it? It seems to release a lot of the automation channels if I am reading it correctly. I currently do not have it bound to a button but if needed I will, just trying to understand where I might need it? Thanks for any clarification.

My issue is if I press FMC release the only way to turn stuff back on is to go through a MFD and there's not a button to do the reverse.

Ok so why would one want to use FMC Release?

I'd probably wait for an SME to respond for an accurate answer, but my guess would be: in situations where the Flight Management Computer (FMC) or Stability Control Augmentation System (SCAS) are malfunctioning and the aircraft is no longer controllable with those systems operational.

Ah yes ok thanks that makes sense.

It’s for an emergency dealing with the sas. Drops all the sas on all axis. You shouldn’t need it in dcs.

Good to know, not going to worry with mapping to a button then.

Basically, I've added the binding as a provision in case non-catastrophic damage to the SCAS is implemented. At the moment, I've never seen individual channel failure or a single channel malfunction.
