I know your position about not wanting to mod, (which is cool). This would be extreme, but you could make a parallel copy of your virgin install. Then use that 2nd version for testing things out? Just a thought.... Yeah but not real fond of doing that at this time , thanks for the suggestion! Supmua Posted March 31, 2022 Posted March 31, 2022 For the people who are interested, all it takes is dragging the files from the zip to the /bin folder. If you don’t like it delete those files and run DCS repair to restore the old OpenVR_api.dll. Installation takes a few seconds, and removal process is almost as easy. This basically allows me to swap back and forth between Steam and OpenXR quickly when I did the comparison tests. Then you’ll understand why people are raving about this in both MSFS and DCS communities. The ability to run your headset display at 100% resolution with decent framerate is a big deal especially if you have a high end setup and want to take full advantage of what your gear has to offer. In that zip there are two files and two folders. The folder hierarchy gets unzipped into the DCS Bin folder as is, or does one need to copy the files out of those directories and paste into the bin folder? One key point though - MSFS 2020 supports Open XR natively, DCS does not. I run my Aero at 100% resolution in Steam VR with default of High Varjo Base, and am very pleased with what I see in DCS which causes me to be hesitant. Edit: Ok re-reading the OP seems I answered my own question, the files along with the folders get extracted to the Bin folder. I may have a look at this - we have family in with grandkids so it may be Saturday before I get a chance, they are leaving Sat morning. I will be very surprised if this improves upon my already very good experience. dburne Posted April 1, 2022 Posted April 1, 2022 (edited) Now I am thoroughly confused when I go back to the download site from the link in the OP it downloads a bunch of files in the zip. I thought there were only 4? This why I do not like Mods. This is what I now have in that zip file. What happened to only the four files I needed? I am not putting all of this on my PC. Baldrick33 Posted April 1, 2022 Posted April 1, 2022 (edited) I don't think the WMR naming matters it was simply originally written with WMR in mind. FWIW this is what I did with a G1 Downloaded the zip file, extracted the three files I need (D3DCompiler_47.dll, opencomposite.ini, openvr_api.dll) and put them in a folder called openxr. dburne Posted April 1, 2022 Posted April 1, 2022 I hopefully will try this out sometime tomorrow. We have grandkids in that will be leaving sometime tomorrow morning. If you haven’t tried this with the Aero, you’re missing out…big time. The ability to use 100% rendering resolution on the Varjo Aero while retaining decent fps just wasn’t possible before until now. And the visuals are absolutely amazing at this resolution, note that I’m also using Higher mode on the Aero instead of default. Everything just looks crisp, with next to nothing aliasing artifacts. Not only that, things are bound to get better once foveated rendering works properly…and dynamic foveated (eye tracking) is also coming soon at least for the MSFS counter part. Detailed FPS option from the toolkit will display CPU and GPU frametimes, and more for those who like to tinker—so fpsVR is not needed. Sharpening is possible via NIS/FSR setting even at 100% scaling, it’s not as good as Reshade’s lumasharpen in terms of making things pop, but the overall visuals look more natural (a tad dimmer and less vibrant) rather than artificial. The gamma is slightly different in OpenXR mode. I normally use 2.0 with SteamVR, but with this I find that 2.2 is better. Question for ya? Getting ready to try out Open XR with my DCS install with the Aero. I went ahead and grabbed the latest version of Open XR Toolkit as well. However when I launch the toolkit this is all I get. Where are all those settings I see getting mentioned? I enabled "experimental settings" but that made no difference. What am I missing? dburne Posted April 3, 2022 Posted April 3, 2022 (edited) Well I replaced the files with the ones I had copied out from my bin folder, still screwed up augh! Got 4 tiny images showing on my desktop and that ain't right. Why in the world did I try this... I really wanted to fly today rather than screw around. Going to try deleting my entire bin folder and copying the one I saved outside of it back in. Edit: Well that did not work, image on monitor still screwed up showing 4 screens. How the heck did a mod I simply copied into my bin folder manage to screw all this up. It sure did though. Going to now try a long repair of DCS again and see if it fixes it.
