Emmer Posted March 12, 2012 Posted March 12, 2012 You can often find nice photos on the official US Defence Department pages for each force. As I understand it the photos are in the public domain, thanks to the generosity of the US taxpayer. USAF http://www.af.mil/photos/index.asp USN http://www.navy.mil/view_photos_top.asp US Marines http://www.marines.mil/news/pages/photos.aspx US Army http://www.ahco.army.mil/site/photos_brief.jsp Look for F-35 shots in the USAF and USN pages (amongst the other goodies). Enjoy. Thanks , Moa. [sIGPIC]http://www.fulltimepilots.nl/Sigs/LLTM2014.jpg[/sIGPIC] http://www.fulltimepilots.nl

mvsgas Posted March 14, 2012 Posted March 14, 2012 That is an X-35, a lot has change. To whom it may concern, I am an idiot, unfortunately for the world, I have a internet connection and a fondness for beer....apologies for that. Thank you for you patience. Many people don't want the truth, they want constant reassurance that whatever misconception/fallacies they believe in are true..

topol-m Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 (edited) Ok , another one: Hope this ones better..........;) Nope, this is 3d animation. Most of the F-35 videos have already been posted in here or in the Photos/Videos thread. If you have missed them, you can check out Lockheed Martin's channel on youtube, there are a lot of nice F-35 videos there: http://www.youtube.com/user/LockheedMartinVideos/videos?query=F-35 Edited March 15, 2012 by topol-m [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

Emmer Posted March 16, 2012 Posted March 16, 2012 BF-6, the first F-35B STOVL production jet delivered to the USMC, arrives at its new assignment with the 2nd MAW's VMFAT-501 at Eglin AFB on January 11th, 2012. The 5th Generation fighter jet, piloted by USMC pilot Maj. Joseph Bachmann, touched down on Florida’s Emerald Coast at 15.13h CST after a 90-minute ferry flight. The F-35A Lightning II JSF lifts off for its first training sortie on March 6 at Eglin AFB. It’s the first flight of any 33rd FW F-35 since their arrival to the base [sIGPIC]http://www.fulltimepilots.nl/Sigs/LLTM2014.jpg[/sIGPIC] http://www.fulltimepilots.nl
PlainSight Posted March 17, 2012 Posted March 17, 2012 (edited) What's that huge lid thingy behind the cockpit? Models that I remember had cool split doors that pulled to sides to uncover the vent, so (wtf) is this? EDIT: ok, it's a fan cover, but why the design change? mvsgas Posted March 18, 2012 Posted March 18, 2012 (edited) They finally got the hint from the yak-38 and the yak -141 ( many other aircraft using lift engine and fans, like the VJ101) and change the door. It helps the lift fan to receive air at all speeds. The only one with the split door was the x-35 (IIRC) Edited March 18, 2012 by mvsgas To whom it may concern, I am an idiot, unfortunately for the world, I have a internet connection and a fondness for beer....apologies for that. Grimes Posted March 18, 2012 Posted March 18, 2012 The split doors are still there, they are just slightly behind it. The right man in the wrong place makes all the difference in the world. Frostiken Posted April 6, 2012 Posted April 6, 2012 So, what happens if there's a linkage failure on the new flappy-lid door, and it falls against the engine inlet? Does the jet implode? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
