1. Try to start and play without the stick. And do you have another mouse, just to test something completly different?

That way we can eliminate it. If the crashes continue, we have to look elsewhere. And we may get confirmation if there is a problem with these devices. :)

Is your system healthy in other aspects?

Maybe you have some other relevant syndroms that can be part of the problem?

Also, I found this thread with someone else using sidewinder (maybe you are using some sidewinder software?)

I don't do the sleep thing. :P

But I am almost 100% certain that it's the Sidewinder mouse that is causing the issue. I've seen it mentioned a lot of times and every time the only "fix" was to not use it, sadly, whereas almost all other hardware issues have been able to work around. From what I've understood, the problem with it resides in the drivers for it - not any software package. Ulrich (I think it was) once corrected me in a similar thread when I had recommended removing the software package, saying with absolute certainty that that would not help.

There is a known problem with the Microsoft Sidewinder Mouse, and I am not entirely sure there is a current fix for that problem. (Patch 1.0.1 will hopefully fix it, but I am not certain.)

Do you have any other mouse available that you can use to test if it works when not using the Sidewinder?

EDIT:

http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=34598&highlight=Microsoft+Sidewinder+Mouse&page=2

The problem resides in some related Microsoft code, which bars ED from fixing it on their own. ED is in contact with Microsoft to find a solution, though.

EtherealN,

you just solved my problem !!

I replaced the sidewinder mouse and all works fine now

Thank you so much !!

My pleasure. :)

Hopefully the problem with the Sidewinder will be fixed before too long and allow you to use it with DCS:BS.

Enjoy the sim, and don't hesitate to ask if you run into any other issues.

I had the same error and uninstalled reinstalled and it then worked though I lost an activation which is a completely another topic in itself.

Posted

If you lost an activation you did something wrong, read the quickstart guide.

Simply reinstalling the sim does not cost an activation. However, if you reinstall after changing any hardware or OS parameters, it is best to have used the deactivation feature first, so as to save your activation and use the same activation on the reinstall.

This is all covered in the quick-start manual, so angry smiley-faces and other topics would be about the fact that you haven't read the quick-start. ;)

I appear to have a similar problem to many other people here.

after much anticipation waiting for this sim to be released, i have downloaded and installed just now, only to find i get a Runtime error when trying to get anywhere.

The GUI works fine, but when selecting a training mission, for example, i am dumped back to my desktop and get this error

i then close this and the GUI starts up again.

No matter what i select mission-wise this happens.

I have tried reducing the resolution and even set it to Low in the graphics options.

I am on a Dell XPS 720 Quad Core with Vista Home Premium 32bit with nvidia geforce 8800 GTX and latest drivers 181.00, 4gb Ram and a Creative SB X-Fi

i don't get a crash log in my game Temp folder, but this is the information i get in my Vista Problem Report:

Hi NightsEye,

Just want to say that I've been having exactly the same issue since Beta1 was released and it still continues throughout all betas up to Beta4. I was trying to solve it here, but people didn't want to help as you are apparently not entitled to technical support during the beta period. After a little persuasion, I received many suggestions, tried all of them, none worked. I contacted Starforce, they told me to contact ED as they have nothing to do with it. ED told me that it is probably their fault but they can't fix it and all they can offer is a refund. :( Not what I expected really. I didn't take it as I really want to try running it when the final release is out. But my hopes are minimal. I don't think there is a conflict with a software because after all unseccesful tries in Vista 64, I bought new W7 64, installed it on formatted drive with nothing else but W7 and DirectX and got the same protect.dll error.

Everything else is running fine, including Black shark so it is really dissapointing. I wonder if it has something to do with SAS drives? Anyone running it on SAS drive?

Hi First Ever Post, I have just removed blackshark from its default location in

WIN7, c\:Program Files\x86x\Eagle Dynamics.

As generally advised so that MODMan can work etc.

I have moved it to C:\DCS Games. I had expected it to install as Eagle Dynamics\ka50 but its just filled the file if DCS Games had been Eagle Dynamics , if you follow. I ran a training track and played it that evening, ran fine. Next day tried to run next training track, - Runtime error dcs.exe, The application has requested the Runtime to terminate in an unusual manner.

I have Win7 to SP1 standard, I installed DCS Blackshard off the disc no updates so that I could get the training tracks as updates seem to corrupt them.

I attach my DX Diag and 2 of the tmp files regarding the failure.

I have tried to run the game without anti virus, no difference

I have not tried to run the game without UAV off

I have done the same with DCS A10 it has run no problem

I have run as administrator and in any case I am adminstrator as its my PC

I did not have to use an 'install key' as it was a re-install on the same PC

Should I just put it back in the default location and see if it works?

I apologise if I am adding this the wrong way- I have never posted before.

Wish I had not done it as I was just beginning to start using the gun and enjoying the game where I have just been enjoying flying the helicopter at treetop height for ages - used to be with Helicopters previously, this is simply the best...and I get to fly it!

Thank you in advance David

Attaching files

Hello,

Just for information, I have to save a copy of the files in notepad, because when I try and just upload the basic file, it does not appear. Don't know if this is yet another 'feature' of Win 7.

Will be back on line midday or tomorrow morning, assistance appreciated

Cheers

David.

Ref the 32bit instruction, same for 64 bit

Hello,

I noticed the instruction for the problems on the 32bit systems on your first reply, can you confirm that I can do the same for my 64 bit machine?

Thank you

Unistall & reinstall failed

I suddenly realised that I had not installed the first patch 1.01.

Put that on, but the .exe failed straight off.

So uninstalled the 1.01, it all came off. So I re-installed in the default location, but when I click the single user icon, I got a white screen with a list of things that are not available and when you click ok the game shuts down.

Uninstalled - rebooted, ran regedit and took out everything with Ka-50 on it.

Reinstalled in default location, exactly the same white screen,

..blackshark\modules\me.training.lua15 'module ogvplayer' not found' and another list of 'not founds'

press ok and game aborts without trying to load....looks like I've lost a good game.

Running win 7, ms antivirus was off and I gave it permission to install.

FC2 and DCS A10, running fine.

Any ideas please.

This one harkins' me back to the old days. Back when Win95 '98 had Memory Leaks. You would run a program that had a Mem. Leak it would crash your system and you would not be able to install it again untill you did a complete reinstall of the OS.

You have tryed the reinstall thing the game itself, to no success have you tried the system restore to the point prior to your problems?

Today this issue can come up after a crash, when part of the program is in Ram Memory or it can be reproduced if a file is moved or deleted in an erronious manner, This being done sometimes by mistake.

Here is dxdiag64 for current status

Hi,

As mentioned in my last post, my attempt to update to fist patch was a total failure and I unintentionally uninstalled the program when I tried to uninstall the patch.

So I re-installed in original default location, where DCS FC2 works fine, but I'd like to operate the helicopter because a fair bit of my military service was on helicopters,

Still get a white screen on start up with a long list of what it's not got,

So attached dxdiag 64 bit and hope you supporting guys can help,

I also noticed that at no time have I been asked for another installation key, but that is due to the fact it's on/off the same pc.

thanks

David

The only time a log is relevent is after a crash of the software, you are not crashing. The game is not loading, but I did look at your Dx log just incase there was something else.

Did you try to restore the system to a point prior to your problems?

Did the system crash while you where playing the game?

Why did you remove the files from your registry?

Thanks for assistance

Hi

The game has not crashed, yes you are correct it just won't load.

I took the files off regedit because in ye olde days I was taught that if there were more than one set of files of the same type, i.e. run_ka-50.exe then there would be a conflict and it would crash/fail/ or somthing of that type.

No I have not tried a recover to an earlier time, I don't suppose that would hurt - wouldhav to be a month or so, when it was running fine in c:\programx86

That'll teach me to follow everything that the internet says about not putting things in there, the only reason I moved it.

Have also this week had a problem updating the graphics card, and nvidia have asked me to clean the drivers out, re-install from safe-mode and install the new driver.

I will Uninstall the game and then re-install it after the new graphics driver is done. If no change then I will rollback a month or so and see if its any better. ok

But not looking forward to a re-install of win7,

Thank you for assistance

No difference really

I have rolled my system back to May and re-installed Black shark,

(The nvidia graphic update did not work and I went back to the ver270 that has been fine so far.)

After the restore I re-installed DCS BS and :

Exactly the same problem, start the game you get music nice screen and then a white screen comes up and says no file, ogvplayer and a list of files referring to the training module and the ogvplayer.

I do not get a request to insert a key at any time, but according to DCS site this is because its on the same machine.

As this has made no change I will now restore my PC to about 3 days ago and hope that you guys can help.

Still like the game though

Thanks David

Tried re-install

Hi

I brought a backup copy of the file across from my backup drive, deleted the original files and copied the files across, no change, Game starts music plays and we see the KA-50, then the white screen saying:

..Dynamics\Ka-50\bin\Stable\lua-ogvplayer not found

Blackshark\module\metraining.lua:15:module

no file..\luagui\ ogvplayer

no file..serial

no file socket

and a load more like that referring to the ogvplayer, sure is a stopper!

I was going to uninstall and use a licence up, be about 4 or 5 now, but the deactivator said the licience was still valid, and don't think this is the problem so did not deactivate.

any help appreciated....re-install win7, going to lose a lot there!

Just a thought though, I see that the previous problem I had could be solved by update of the C++ program, could it be that this is what has got corrupted, If I delete my current C++ from programs, and get a re-install from the MS website, could this perhaps change things?

Any advice appreciated

Thank you

David
