Can somebody please summarise the radio channels etc that are required to make data link work when on-line. I flew last night with a freind but we couldn't get the data to transfer between aircraft. I don't require instructions on how to use the data link but how to set it up.

Thanks

Make sure you're data link switch it turned on. Lead should be set to channel 1 and wings should be set to 2 3 4 etc. There's a switch with numbers on the right panel by the Data Link power switch.

Hope that helps, it's good to be connected :)

We tried that last night but still must have been doing something wrong. What happens if you have a server with more than 4 players?

change radio freq and start a new flight of 4

Cat; I'm aware that the manual has all the answers. However, it's not exactly the easiest book to follow. Thanks for the insight.

(from memory sorry)

-Need to have your AC power running to power the radios and Datalink system.

-Need to have your Datalink Comms radio enabled and VHF1 and 2 on (basically turn on all the radio switches)

-NAV systems on

-ABRIS On

-INU On

-Need to have the Datalink transmit system iself set to "enable" (2 way switch above the ID No etc. and above blue AP channel buttons right hand side, under the PVI800)....at this point, check the Datalink Panel (Ptrz ?) is powered by pressing any of the green buttons on it to see if they light up).

- Need to select the same channel on your VHF transmitter/reciever (left hand side, 4 orange wheels you can rotate to change freq...doesnt matter particularly what freq as long as it is the same on both ships)

- Need to change the Datalink mode to one of its operational modes (Comnd, Wingmn, recve or Snd) .. most commonly, lead wuill use Comnd mode (right most mode), and wingmen will use Wingmn mode (2nd right most)

- Need to make sure all people on flight have individual ID numbers set. If more than 4 in a flight, then mutliple people can use the same ID number, but they will blink on the Abris between the 2 ships sharing...better perhaps to use "recieve" only mode for additional ships so they can see you, but they dont transmit their own ID.

- Profit

- Dont forget , if you are parked closely together, you may need to zoom all the way in on teh ABRIS to confirm you can see them on datalink.

- Also dont forget, if you are flying seperated by a hill, you may not see them at all because of signal loss (Raidio wave loss is modelled in the Sim)

-Additionally, if co-ordinating multiple flights, you "could" manually change between frequencies to see differnt flight updates...probably best if done in recieve only mode...just a thought.
