Rosie Posted June 26, 2022 Posted June 26, 2022 I just got into DCS and trying to sort out a throttle. Seeing how there is no timeframe on when the TECS throttle is going to come to market I was wondering if anyone has used the GNX WWII throttle? Any reason why this would not be a viable starter controller or would it not work with the more modern jet modules? I don't see any reviews or comments on it in the forums or anywhere else. Has anyone tried this thing out and if so how did it perform?
Svsmokey Posted June 26, 2022 Posted June 26, 2022 WW2 throttles , being for prop planes , require at least 3 axes for each engine ( throttle , prop , mixture ) . Modern jets generally need only 1 axis per engine , but more switches on the grip , and a mini-stick for target designation , assuming you don't have a ministick on your stick grip . If you plan to fly in VR , the need for grip switches is even greater to avoid using keyboard commands , although this can be alleviated using voice commands . 9700k @ stock , Aorus Pro Z390 wifi , 32gb 3200 mhz CL16 , 1tb EVO 970 , MSI RX 6800XT Gaming X TRIO , Seasonic Prime 850w Gold , Coolermaster H500m , Noctua NH-D15S , CH Pro throttle and T50CM2/WarBrD base on Foxxmounts , CH pedals , Reverb G2v2
Rosie Posted June 27, 2022 Author Posted June 27, 2022 (edited) This is the throttle I was asking about. The axis would seem to work with single engine jets and it has a good amount of buttons. Other than the limitations with jets with multiple engines would this be do-able with a single engine jet? Has anyone ever used one of these? Edited June 27, 2022 by Rosie Adding text
Svsmokey Posted June 27, 2022 Posted June 27, 2022 (edited) This might be the better option for jets . I use it for both single and twin engine jets . It has a mini-stick for target designation , 3 pushbuttons on the front (i use them for flaps) and 4 hat switches on the grip . Less expensive too . https://www.chproducts.com/Pro-Throttle-v13-d-719.html Edited June 29, 2022 by Svsmokey 1 9700k @ stock , Aorus Pro Z390 wifi , 32gb 3200 mhz CL16 , 1tb EVO 970 , MSI RX 6800XT Gaming X TRIO , Seasonic Prime 850w Gold , Coolermaster H500m , Noctua NH-D15S , CH Pro throttle and T50CM2/WarBrD base on Foxxmounts , CH pedals , Reverb G2v2
Mistermann Posted June 27, 2022 Posted June 27, 2022 @Rosie VKB makes some nice components. I have their rudder pedals and a Gunfighter III with the Modern Combat Grip. Can't go wrong with either. I am a VR guy, so my devices all have to work by feel. Here's the throttle I use for Jets/Helis/Warbirds and I have never had a need for anything else. If you're willing to consider other gear, this one has been my goto throttle for many years (I've lost count). https://www.thrustmaster.com/products/twcs-throttle/ System Specs: Spoiler Callsign:Kandy Processor:13th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-13900K - RAM: 64GB - Video Card: NVIDIA RTX 4090 - Display: Pimax 8kx VR Headset - Accessories: VKB Gunfighter III MCG Ultimate, VKB STECS Standard, Thrustmaster TPR Pedals, Simshaker JetPad, Predator HOTAS Mounts, 3D Printed Flight Button Box Video Capture Software: Open Broadcaster Software (OBS), Video Editing Software: PowerDirector 35 Into The Jungle (MP Mission) F18: Scorpion's Sting Apache Campaign - Griffins Kiowa Campaign - Assassins
Laidback Posted June 29, 2022 Posted June 29, 2022 I was just looking at one of the pictures on the site. It has 2 buttons on the side of the grip. If one of those is a 4-way hat switch it could actually be used as the target designator. Or you can try the Thrustmaster for $129 like Mistermann posted. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
CBStu Posted September 11, 2022 Posted September 11, 2022 Also be aware that the target designator does not have to be on the throttle. When I got my VKB Space Combat stick I found that the center hat switch works just fine for slewing and push to designate. In fact, the similar button on my Thrustmaster throttle has always been fine for slewing on the radar screen but kind of sucked for everything else. So I use the one on the throttle for radar and the one on the stick for everything else.
