markturner1960 Posted July 9, 2022 Posted July 9, 2022 (edited) As title, is this possible? Installed Reshade yesterday and love the effect in DCS 2D, but today my VR no worky......I Imagine because of ReShade. Is it a case of one or the other? speed-of-heat Posted July 9, 2022 Posted July 9, 2022 it is not compatible with Re-Shade, it is one or the other, I'm pretty sure it says that in the install instructions for OXR yep it does literally say that in the install instructions On 3/17/2022 at 9:33 AM, nikoel said: OpenXR for WMR Headsets & others - Quickstart Guide What works and what doesn’t? Mods Reshade does not work but reshading can be done via OpenXR Toolkit (more on this shortly) OpenVR_FSR does not work. FSR/NIS Works via the latest version OpenXR Toolkit OpenKneeboard now works! Thank you VrNecksaver is now in Beta Alpha AF. If you like to tinker then give it a go. However I would like to remind you that existence is pain. Think of it as a feature of OpenXR for it motivates you to keep bandits off your six and channels your inner owl. And hey! horstweihrauch Posted July 9, 2022 Posted July 9, 2022 Vr with reshade would be dope. Simplex shader are working at least Darkstar: Merged
Supmua Posted July 9, 2022 Posted July 9, 2022 (edited) Reshade especially version 5 is OpenVR only for now. Devs are considering OpenXR port but will likely be awhile as VR is not their main interest. I pretty much use Reshade in most of my games with hundreds of custom filters out there you can do all kinds of post processings. You can even play games in Stereoscopy using VR headset with a filter (OpenVR only though). Edited July 9, 2022 by Supmua PC: 5800X3D/4090, 11700K/3090, 9900K/2080Ti. markturner1960 Posted July 9, 2022 Author Posted July 9, 2022 (edited) Hi, OK< so I need to use reshade using the openXR toolkit when in VR? Is that what you mean by OpenVR?. That means I cant have it running in 2D though, correct? I don’t think that would work in 2D though (OXRTK). Reshade 5 even uses different api layers between 2D and VR mode so what you set in 2D will not affect VR and vice versa. Not sure how it would work with your headset but I have no conflict between Reshade and OpenXR with the Aero. So whenever I switch from OpenXR to OpenVR or flatscreen, Reshade is always available. OpenVR is the default VR api that is used by DCS (typically via SteamVR unless you use Oculus). If you are using OpenXR toolkit then you are using OpenXR mode which bypasses SteamVR. Reshade 5 requires OpenVR api and also SteamVR overlay to make adjustment so it won’t work unless you switch back to OpenVR, but sticking with OpenXR will probably yield better performance for your G2 headset. markturner1960 Posted July 9, 2022 Author Posted July 9, 2022 Hmm, so if I understand correctly then you are using Reshade 5 in 2D and also using your Aero in VR, using OpenXR without issues....This was what I wanted to do. How do you make that work please? No special set up or anything, it just works OK? If I try to run DCS in VR, I get an error message and it crashes since the Reshade install. I am using a G2 and bypassing SteamVR, using OpenXRtoolkit. If its a choice, Open XR or reshade, Open XR wins of course, its just a shame as I do fly 2D as well and the effects were great..... I use Reshade with OpenVR on my Aero and that's my preferred mode of running DCS at the moment, I do swap back and forth fairly often though to check on things. Let me clarify, Reshade can't be used with OpenXR, but can co-exist and doesn't need to be removed and will be available whenever I switch out of OpenXR mode. For the G2 it might be better to stick with OpenXR, but again I do not have that headset so can't comment. On the Aero I only lose 1-1.5ms of frametime with Reshade/OpenVR vs OpenXR so it's a nice tradeoff for really good image quality. markturner1960 Posted July 10, 2022 Author Posted July 10, 2022 OK, thanks, thats clear. Unfortunately for me it seems that the reshade 5 install wont allow my DCS to run in VR using OpenXRtools, which is a shame. I was getting an error message about a "config stub....?" then the DCS crash message. Oh well! Thanks for the input - very helpful as usual! PLUTON Posted September 29, 2022 Posted September 29, 2022 I apparently have the same problem with G2 Openxr and reshade 5 DCS crashes with this error message so i will have to uninstall reshade

Gruman Posted October 7, 2022 Posted October 7, 2022 Stupid question: Is there a way to quickly enable/disable Reshade without uninstalling/reinstalling & reconfiguring it every time I decide to switch? I'm using both VR (Reverb OpenXR) and 2D. I would like to run at least 2d with Reshade. Supmua Posted October 7, 2022 Posted October 7, 2022 (edited) I don’t have to uninstall it disable Reshade when using OpenXR, but I’m using Varjo Aero so behavior with other headsets may not apply. I’ve been pretty much flipping back and forth between Steam OpenVR and OpenXR modes by just swapping the openvr_api.dll file. Reshade only works in OpenVR though.
