maajr57 Posted July 20, 2022 Posted July 20, 2022 I am a new user struggling with the complexity of DCS. I am familiar with X-Plane and P3D. How do I place a plane in the location I want for a flight? All I want to do is learn to fly the planes to start. How do I put the plane of my choosing at an airport ramp or runway of my choosing to begin a flight? Seems like that would be the beginning of a simple mission but can't seem to figure it out. Please advise. Thank you
VR Flight Guy in PJ Pants Posted July 20, 2022 Posted July 20, 2022 Just select the plane icon, click on a position on the map, select the type which is the plane you wish to fly, and it must be in yellow colour. Then select skill to client or player, then you are good to go. Actually, in "Instant Action", more often than not there is a "free flight" mission to hop right into the plane of choice. Enjoy. I Fly, Therefore I Am. One cannot go around not saying "Thank you" every time these days, can't you? YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCc9BDi-STaqgWsjNiHbW0fA
maajr57 Posted July 20, 2022 Author Posted July 20, 2022 Thank you for the reply VR Flight Guy in PJ Pants! I put the plane at an airport by clicking on the map in mission editor but I can't place it parked on the ground. The altitude and speed will not go to zero. Please advise.
toutenglisse Posted July 20, 2022 Posted July 20, 2022 @maajr57 on the picture above, change "TYPE : Turning point" for a parked option.
maajr57 Posted July 20, 2022 Author Posted July 20, 2022 Thanks Toutenglisse! I actually just discovered that little tidbit!
maajr57 Posted July 20, 2022 Author Posted July 20, 2022 The saga continues! I put an A-10C on the ramp. Making progress! Now I cant get in the cockpit. Looking at an external view. F1 and F2 and the numpad keys do not put me in the cockpit.
maajr57 Posted July 20, 2022 Author Posted July 20, 2022 I am now on the ramp, on the ground and in the cockpit! Changed skill level to client. Thank you all for your help.

Although "Client" works in single player, the correct setting to use is "Player". This will save you the step of having to choose the client slot at mission start. If you want a mission where you can swap aircraft, then adding multiple client aircraft may actually be desirable. By the way, all your questions are answered in the DCS User Manual. Make sure to download the 2020 version for the most up to date info. maajr57 Posted July 21, 2022 Author Posted July 21, 2022 Have read much of the manuals. It's an ongoing process. Where in the manual does it tell me how to get out of the F10 map? Still can't escape the map back to the cockpit!

Use the view options for your particular airframe (F1 should get you back to cockpit).
