evanf117 Posted July 23, 2022 Posted July 23, 2022 as much as i like having a door gun in the first place it would be cool to get some different smaller door guns so we can have one gunner on each side like in this video 3
Northstar98 Posted July 24, 2022 Posted July 24, 2022 (edited) +1, would also be nice if the corridor between the cargo cabin and the cockpit wasn't a black void too. Dr Zaius Posted July 27, 2022 Posted July 27, 2022 A double gun setup would be so awesome, given the choice of one massive Kord or 2 smaller PK's on both sides I know which I'd prefer! 2 System Specs: Intel Core i9-9900K 3.6GHz @ 4.8GHz, Gigabyte Z390 Aorus Master, 32 GB G.Skill Trident Z DDR4-3600 RAM, GeForce GTX 4090, Crucial SSD (2TB), TrackIR 5, TM Throttle, VPC WarBRD Stick, TM T-Flight Rudder Pedals, Samsung 49” Odyssey G9

It would be nice, but they would have a very small field of view through the windows. In Afghanistan they didn’t start having 12.7mm gunners with the door open until they had flown lots of missions with window gunners, and quickly realized that the window gunners had such a small field of view through the windows that it made them not so useful. They then started using tripods to put 12.7mm there with the door open, the upgrade on caliber was just a consequence of the need for the gunner to be able to see and fire at a larger range of angles. However if they did it I would still carry them probably in less intense missions, as it does give it a sleek nice look, and I’m a sucker for symmetry. 1 Black Shark Den Squadron Member: We are open to new recruits, click here to check us out or apply to join! https://blacksharkden.com

Not to mention the huge amount of fun it’d be in multicrew! 1 System Specs: Intel Core i9-9900K 3.6GHz @ 4.8GHz, Gigabyte Z390 Aorus Master, 32 GB G.Skill Trident Z DDR4-3600 RAM, GeForce GTX 4090, Crucial SSD (2TB), TrackIR 5, TM Throttle, VPC WarBRD Stick, TM T-Flight Rudder Pedals, Samsung 49” Odyssey G9
Stratos Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 I would like that too! 1 I don't understand anything in russian except Davai Davai!
Dragon1-1 Posted August 3, 2022 Posted August 3, 2022 Eh, rifle caliber stuff is useless in DCS. I flew the gunpod training mission, and while the 12.7mm miniguns work OK and kill things, the 7.62mm ones... don't. They have a wonderful rate of fire, but suck at actually doing anything. It's the same with Mi-8. That said, this isn't realistic, and killing a truck's engine can be done with a pistol if you have a big enough one. Rifle caliber should be effective against infantry and softskins, right now it's a peashooter that's really fun to fire, but of no use beyond that. And that's with a minigun, not a slower-firing MG. 1

Yeah, I think my perspective is that they'd be good to have as an AI only option (much as is the case with the Mi-8)... in order to simulate door gunners in the pre-Kord era... it is nice to have some type of suppressive capability on your helicopter, and for Afghanistan era missions I believe the PKT was the weapon equipped? P.S. I believe there is a photo of an AGS-17 set up to be fired from the side of a helicopter... that would be interesting - probably more effective than the gunpod version is!
bingbean Posted August 12, 2022 Posted August 12, 2022 +1 for smaller gun what don't remove rocket launcher or gunpod from inner pods. 1
