killerquagmire Posted July 27, 2022 Posted July 27, 2022 Hey guys, I made a terrible mistake by installing OpenComposite and the related software and it has made my VR unplayable and I can't figure out how to roll it back. I'm getting extreme stutter even outside of the game. I followed this link https://www.gamersbynight.com/dcs-settings-vr/ and installed OpenComposite, OpenXR and the open XR developers tools. I couldn't figure out how to find the individual files for DCS so I just used the Opencomposite system wide installer. I believe that was mistake. I have tried uninstalling Open XR and the developer tools and still have the problem. I also tried reinstalling my Oculus but I still have the same issue. There doesn't seem to be any info out there on rolling back OpenComposite once initiated. Any help would be greatly appreciated because as of right now, I have no idea what to do aside from a complete Windows reinstall and I really want to avoid that if at all possible. I'm using the Oculus Rift S and Windows 11. Thanks in advance.
speed-of-heat Posted July 28, 2022 Posted July 28, 2022 I use the generic installer and it works fine. How has it ruined your experience, what is no longer working or broken? But if you have uninstalled oxr and the toolkit ( they are just programs) then you might need to try a dcs repair. Intel 10600k, RTX3090, 32 GB 3200 mhz ram, Oculus Rift-S, windows 11. The stuttering issue wasn't present until I installed OpenComposite and OPenXR tools. I uninstalled the tools and even reinstalled my oculus but the problem persists. I'm assuming it has to do with the OpenComposite launcher. Edited July 28, 2022 by killerquagmire

Thank you for the reply. The issue goes beyond DCS. Even on the oculus home screen I'm experiencing a tremendous amount of stuttering. I uninstalled the tool kit and OXR to no avail. I also use the DCS updater tool and I did try the repair and clean and DCS is still unplayable due to stuttering. I used the OpenComposite launcher as instructed here https://gitlab.com/znixian/OpenOVR to do a system wide installation and I'm afraid that may be the issue as I don't see any option to uninstall that or roll it back. I already know I obviously went down the wrong path and screwed something up because none of the DLL's even populate. All I get on the launcher is the option to switch to SteamVR. Of course as a last ditch effort I tried switching to SteamVR and the problem still persists. I hope you guys can help me because I'm feeling pretty screwed at this point.

killerquagmire Posted July 29, 2022 Author Posted July 29, 2022 Thanks for the replies guys but I just said the heck with it and reinstalled Windows. I use my PC only as a gaming rig so it wasn’t that big of a deal. Probably would have invested more time in trying to undo the damage I did. I’m normally pretty good with installing mods but that one just confused the heck out of me. I looked high and low in OpenComposite for the 3 files specified and I just couldn’t find them anywhere which is why I opted to do the system wide install. Definitely user error on my part. But anyway, I’m back up and running smooth after the Windows wipe. Thanks again guys. 2

Makes it all easier to move back also. Hope it helps!
