Dieselmadness Posted July 30, 2022 Posted July 30, 2022 In the real world, do F18 pilots on carrier deployment ever land at a land base, then fly back to the boat or do they ALWAYS return to the boat every single hop?
Swift. Posted July 30, 2022 Posted July 30, 2022 Diverts happen for various reasons, but you'd plan to recover back to the boat you launched from. The jet you are flying will need to be used again after all, and if nothing else your pyjamas are still on the boat! 1 476th Discord | 476th Website | Swift Youtube Ryzen 5800x, RTX 4070ti, 64GB, Quest 2
Dieselmadness Posted July 31, 2022 Author Posted July 31, 2022 well aside from the obvious like their pajamas being on the boat, i was just curious if say off the coast of a us base they would ever land at the base, refuel and head back to the boat...or do any sort of maneuvers that incorporated a pit stop at a land base.
Spock14 Posted August 1, 2022 Posted August 1, 2022 Short answer they do. There are so many possibility why. I recently saw CVW-1 detaching some planes for a couple of days to train with france shoreside. Sometimes they just stop to hot refuel and continue to the boat as seen in the attached video. However the standard is to return to the ship within the cycles. Spock
