markturner1960 Posted August 19, 2022 Posted August 19, 2022 I have managed to getthese learned, but not having a 100% success. In the enclosed picture, can anyone see why the missile wont launch? Pressing the button it flashes REL, but missile wont come off.....Previous 3 all rifled as they should....... TEOMOOSE Posted August 19, 2022 Posted August 19, 2022 (edited) Looking at the the pictures. Sensors seems to be correlating. Since theres no track file, im guessing its more of a contrast issue on the mav side. Adjust contrast on the weapon page as needed to get a better contrast of the target. Also noticing the tgp is not in point track mode. TMS up, point track commands the auto hand-off. Make sure you are in LAR when you do the hand-off. (which you are well within in this picture) Edited August 19, 2022 by TEOMOOSE
skywalker22 Posted August 19, 2022 Posted August 19, 2022 You are missing: TGP (left MFD) press ones again TMP UP, to create a point track and a handoff to Maverick missile. You must see the "T" letter (Targeting pod is giving maverick the lock command on the designated targe) and/or "C" (Handoff is complete, Maverick and TGP locks are both correlated). Then move to right MFD (Maverick), when in effective range of cca 6-8nm, and you are pointing towards the target area (Maverick gimbals are 10 deg in azimuth and 15 deg in elevation), press TMS UP - that cross over the target has to shake a bit - if not, TMS Down, and TMS Up again to lock the target. And then press Weapon release button. Did a short video: 1
Solution Coole28 Posted August 19, 2022 Solution Posted August 19, 2022 The other responses go over the procedure for TPOD handoff and manual tracking, which is good to know but didn’t actually answer your specific question. The reason your maverick didn’t release is because it isn’t locked on to anything. No lock, no release. When you designate a target with the TPOD, the maverick may fail to get acquire a lock. When the maverick has a lock on a target, the tracking gate (crosshairs) close. In the picture you provided, the crosshairs are still open. The easiest/quickest remedy is to hit TMS up with the maverick screen SOI to attempt a lock, as skywalker22 shows in his video. Sometimes it takes several attempts, especially if you are at 5nm or more. Below are examples of an unlocked and locked maverick screen (taken from Chuck’s guide). You can also see this in skywalker22’s video. Note how the crosshair closes the gap once it acquired a lock. 2 1

Furiz Posted August 20, 2022 Posted August 20, 2022 (edited) Also during daylight, it is better to use CCD version, H and K, which are better suited to desert environment. Leave D and G for nighttime. Edited August 20, 2022 by Furiz
markturner1960 Posted August 23, 2022 Author Posted August 23, 2022 Thanks a bunch people....am currently learning 4 airframes ( Harrier, Viper, Hornet & Apache) and everything is different in so many ways on each....keeping track in your brain is very tricky...
