Gunfreak Posted September 22, 2022 Posted September 22, 2022 So I assume the 30mm isn't capable of taking out say T-72, Abrahams etc. But can it take out a T-55? i7 13700k @5.2ghz, GTX 5090 OC, 128Gig ram 4800mhz DDR5, M2 drive.

You have to be behind it, and shoot from high up, and get the rear top armor. HE won’t do anything. So if you’re using combat mix, completing killing one is way too much work. If you use all AP might be possible with a half dozen passes, but is possible with any gun ammo if you have full ammo and have already done 70-80% damage. Mr_sukebe Posted September 22, 2022 Posted September 22, 2022 Main battle tanks are usually (exclude the Leopard from that) VERY well armoured on their front, vaguely armoured on their sides and fairly poor on the rear and top. If you've going to shoot a the GAU 30mm at an MBT, shoot it in the top or rear. On the front, it'll just bounce. 7800x3d, 5080, 64GB, PCIE5 SSD - Oculus Pro - Moza (AB9), Virpil (Alpha, CM3, CM1 and CM2), WW (TOP and CP), TM (MFDs, Pendular Rudder), Tek Creations (F18 panel), Total Controls (Apache MFD), Jetseat

Actually with full AP I wonder how it compares to GAU in game with Gsh-30-2K, from game LUA Gau-8 AP: Dispersion: 0.0011 Veloxity dispersion: 0.006 360 grams 1080 m/s Gsh-30-2K: Dispersion: 0.0005 Velocity dispersion: 0.0081 390 grams 940 m/s If we use kinetic energy calculator, GAU-8 is 210 kJ and Gsh-30-2K is 172 kJ the Gsh has less then half the dispersion but no PACS and causes lots of recoil, has 62% more velocity dispersion, and has 82% of the kinetic energy of the GAU-8 round, and 68% of the fire rate of the GAU-8. If combine the two, the GAU-8 puts out about 60% more kinetic energy per minute. So if we compare to A-10 in DCS, we should expect those results. Apache is an offer comparison in DCS becuase it’s rounds actually have an armor penetration effect Black Shark Den Squadron Member: We are open to new recruits, click here to check us out or apply to join! https://blacksharkden.com
