I keep getting a crash in this mission which always occurs on the last part of the mission when travelling back towards Happy Valley.

One time it crashed after Weed was hit and the decision was made to skip the AAR because we were still on ladder.

The second time Weed was not hit and it crashed right after Cajun was asking for fuel states.

VR user here without any 3rd party mods.

EDIT: 3rd try...Weed was hit again, no AAR, 42miles from carrier the game crashed again. Too frustrated to try again before the next patch.

I realize that this is probably a bug within DCS but it would be nice if the thing that triggers the crashes could be found and thus perhaps avoided.

I now believe, that the crashes could have something to do with what happens when the AI flights return to the carrier.

At least this would correlate to the distance to the carrier the crashes occured at. (Unfortunately I didn't note down the in game time when the crash happened).

On my first try I bugged out as soon as Weed was hit and the order to bug west was given. So I headed directly to the get well and then RTB. I got to under 30 miles from the carrier.

2nd time around I loitered around the get well point for some quite some time as I waited for Cajun and Smoke to get there. The crash happened when I was still about 80 miles out.

On the 3rd time I was again pretty fast and didn't have to wait for the other flight because Weed was hit again. As mentioned in the OP I got to about 42miles from the carrier.

Based on this, I think that the returning flights somehow cause the crash. At least on the 3rd try I noticed the message of a plane trapping shortly before the crash.

I spent a lot of time trying to find the reason, but I cannot reproduce it on my end (not to mention that I don't have my PC well into second month of repairs, damn you HP).

Anyway, other users pipointed the crashes to AI F-14, and this is completely out of my hands. Heatblur guys are investigating it, but this seems to be a DCS-wide issue happening to some, but not to all (for instance neither myself nor any of my beta testers encountered any problems, and each of us flew each mission several times). Sorry I can't be more specific, but there is simply nothing I can do about the CTDs.

Well glad to hear I'm not the only one with the issue.  I'm new to trying out VR in campaings and I've had two crashes on M13 as the OP mentioned.  First time Weed got hit and was nursing it back, DCS crashed about 60nm from the carrier, second time Weed put it in the drink so he wasn't with me, DCS crashed about 80 miles out...right after Broom 33 requested fuel states.  I'll just skip it and move ahead.  Super fun mission BTW!

Hey BD not sure if this helps, but I flew it in 2.8 and it didn't crash. I have the Tomcat installed.

I remember getting the radio calls for the BDA, *maybe* the ones about AAR, but definitely not about switching to marshal and heading back to the carrier, kissing off, etc like I typically do.

After Cajun told me he'd stay with Weed and said I could RTB, I headed straight for the carrier TACAN directly, and bypassed the get well point waypoint and its associated triggers?

Yes, bypassing that would strip you from some part of the story / VOs. This is true for all the campaigns, make sure to follow the waypoints and instructions - otherwise it is likely that you will omit part of the story. Happy to hear it didn’t crash anymore though.

Yeah ... I'm wondering that if it didn't crash for me but crashing for players who are better at following procedure if any of the crashes could be induced by the triggers that I missed... thought it might help you narrow it down!

Either way if we need to wait for a core DCS fix I'm pumped with all the Mirage Red Flag updates in the latest patch and happy to fly that to bide our time. I miss flying with Max hehe
