Hi,

I have a question about the performance of the F-16 radar. I have flown several self created multiplayer sessions over the days. So I knew where my opponents (various like Viggen, Su33 and also helicopters) are and also checked/aligned using the Map screen.

I have partially only get on a radar image shortly before I could visually capture the machines, so 5-10nm or smaller.

Is this normal or are there still issues in the simulation of the radar?
Radar antenna alignment, altitude, scanbars were in my view correctly aligned and ground clutter I can also exclude, since the aircraft were located between 150000 and 20000ft. There should no background interference against the sky.

Is this normal? I actually would have expected to be able to pick up targets much better and at higher distances.

But am not an expert, that's why I wanted to ask the question in the forum.

Thanks.

I will definitely check this spotlight radar search in the video (9:50). Interesting thing!

My problem yesterday was that no radar signature was displayed on the FCR MFD either. The enemies were each in groups of 3, these were displayed only very close "non-BVR" range. Especially during my test against the Viggen, these came flying towards me. Was the radar cross section possibly too small?

I will check this again in the next few days.

Thanks so far.

Don't use the jammer if you want to have greater radar distance. You can see those aircrafts at around 40nm, the helicopters much less I don't remember exactly but 10-15nm if I'm not mistaken.

Good hint with the jammer. Mine was off (not mounted), but my wingman's may have been activated. It can be so obvious. Will check again but I think that was it. Thanks!

There are still issues with the radar, and ED knows about them. They are wokring on them. Specially lookup and lookdown are the issues.

Not quite true. If you have an ECM XMIT knob on 1 (there are 3 positions) this means the system will prefer Radar, which means you can still fully use the Radar.

Also put the CMDS (Countermeasures Dispensing System) Mode Knob to Auto, so it will automatically start jamming (when it does, then you are not able to use the radar).

In position 1 the radar has greatly reduced performance (when its active).

Depends in which stage...

When ECM is only in Active (not in Transmit) mode, then radar has it's full range of scanning

When IS in Transmit mode, then the radar looses 40% of it's length of scanning, so it can only scan 60% of it's full scan  - AFAIK.
