EcosseFlyer Posted October 22, 2022 Posted October 22, 2022 (edited) Yesterday noticed there was a build up inside my throttle of what looks like plastic shavings. Its obviously grinding it down when using the levers. Im guessing this isnt normal? I dont have the friction set too high either. Ive only had the throttle and stick for 12 months and has seen very little use as it was in storage for about 3 of those. Also the levers themselves have quite a bit of play laterally, especially worse when unpinned. It feels like the levers need a thin metal shim or something to keep them tight on the pivot? Was going to invest in a slew upgrade but not sure now. Pretty disapointed in the build quality of something over £400... Serial 135... Tenebrae Aeternae Posted October 22, 2022 Posted October 22, 2022 Throttle levers imo are the worst "feature" in the TM Hotas Warthog. I don´t think there´s a massive epidemy with them breaking though. I was bit surprised that i couldn´t find any 3d-print replacement models for the actual levers, or even something that bolts into the detent slot for the purpose of extra support to make them more solid. The throttle feels really plasticky in use and it´s something i´m hoping to resolve myself one way or another. You could try to lube yours, i´ve had issue with another TM product before, that apparently it had sat in storage forever and i had to relube it straight out of the box. 1 PC: i7 8700k 32GB DDR4 3200 Mhz RTX 3070 Ti Hotas Warthog Thrustmaster TPR Track ir 5 Bodnar BBI-32 Beyerdynamic DT-770 Pro Focusrite Scarlett 18i20 Lewitt LCT 240 Pro Jets: A-10A A-10C Warthog A-10C II F-14 Tomcat F-16C Viper F-5E Tiger II F/A-18C Hornet F-15C Su-33 MiG-29 F-86F Sabre Choppers: AH-64D Mi-8MTV2 UH-1H Huey Black shark 2 Maps: Nevada Normandy Persian gulf Syria The Channel WW2: BF-109 K4 Fw 190 D-9 Dora Mosquito FB VI P-51D Mustang Spitfire LF Mk. Hempstead Posted October 22, 2022 Posted October 22, 2022 The shaving is totally normal. One of mine has been in service since Warthog’s release. The MIC switch had been torn down and cleaned up several times, and finally the whole switch assembly replaced. And the throttle with all the shavings is still ok. Just don’t keep tightening the friction wheel to get higher friction. When it reached equilibrium, leave it be. I mean, you don’t want more shavings, right? Let’s just say the friction is not adjustable, unless you have a lot of consumable pads; it’s a design fail. 2 1

Thanks for the reply, good to know Im not alone at least - I`ve reduced the friction somewhat to help so i`ll see how it goes. Makes sense as I probably did have the friction wheel too far round to the right anyway. Do i need to worry about cleaning it out or does it matter? On the plus side it`ll probably make AAR actually easier with a less tight throttle anyway i suppose..... 1 hour ago, Tenebrae Aeternae said: Throttle levers imo are the worst "feature" in the TM Hotas Warthog. Yeh the plastic on plastic internal design seems a bit odd considering the rest of it is so heavy you could break your foot if it dropped it. And it kept coming, so I didn't. It's been over 10 years. I am still good. The deal is that the main sensors are MLX90333 in digital mode. Not sure about the later model, but I doubt they would change it, because the digital mode requires a "non-standard" 3-wire SPI wiring. Changing to say the later all digital MLX90363 will require PCB change, b/c this baby uses a standard 4-wire SPI. Since they are Hall sensors, unless the shavings get into the axel or the pot in the white friction to the right of the throttle, other switches and buttons are pretty much sealed. 1
