JDski Posted January 14, 2009 Posted January 14, 2009 (edited) It's too late. I'm already afraid to ask any questions in fear they might be in the manual and I may have missed them. Look at it this way. No matter how trivial or easy a question could have been found by someone. You should always work to help them get the answer. Why? Because it helps the community grow. If you turn someone off for whatever reason, even if it seems justified, you've still just turned that person off to a degree. Eventually they might get frustrated and give up. The more people that get into this gender, the more secure it makes it and the better it is for all of us and the future of it. What so hard to just skip over a post? Every question should be answered no matter how stupid or easy you might think it is to find. If it bothers you, just ignore it. Being unpleasant to anyone is just another stone thats thrown in which hurts the entire community and gender. I'm not pointing fingers at anyone, I'm just stating how I feel about this issue in general. I do think there should be a seperate area on this forum dedicated to just training. Where people could write up what the've learned, lessons on systems, training video's and tracks, etc. People could then ask questions. Even simple basic stuff should be covered too. Because hopefully for all of our sakes, new people will keep comming in. Anything to get them up and getting the most out of this sim and really start to enjoy it, the better. Maybe it would encourage those who want to help others with true sincerity a place to do that, and people with questions a easy place to go to ask questions without worry about ridicule. manbird Posted January 14, 2009 Posted January 14, 2009 This attitude serves in driving away senior forum members with lots of knowledge, because they get annoyed of all the redundant questions being asked, often easily avoidable by using the manual or forum search feature (yes, even you can search a pdf for a few keywords ;)), it's not asking too much for everybody to use the search feature, if you cannot find what you look for, (almost) everybody will be glad to help. Btw. i know some die hard sim fora where the old-timers do not hesitate to flame newbies for not RTFM, be glad that this forum is not one of them. This is a forum for asking questions, if you don't like the questions then don't click on the thread. Some junior memebrs here are actual pilots, some senior members here are armchair pilots. We all share the same enjoyable product and community. If you want restrictive forums, then perhaps you should form your own blackshark page and hang out there.

I for myself do answer to noob questions where i can, but what i do is additionally point the person to where he/she could have collected some info him/herself. Maybe it's just my usenet background, but am i the only one who thinks that people who do not search themselves before they ask, lack decency? (I'm not talking about total forum noobs, of course) Ever heard of this chinese proverb: "Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime."? Some people seem to need a kick in the butt to even want to learn to fish but that's not my job to do. :) right Ctrl-C btw. Edited January 15, 2009 by sobek Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two. deviletk Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 LOL guys! Honestly though. It is a nice tips Airway and Sobek gave - Use the search button and RTFM because it's annoying to even just read the same questions fifty-eleven times (with different titles so you never know until its too late lol). Let alone replying to them! Phew. :D :megalol: No harm done though. And ofcourse people should post if they dont seem to find an answer (me included). Nothing wrong in that. But still good tips here that people seem to react strange to. ;) 2 Regards Alex "Snuffer" D. AMD FX8350 (8 core) 4.1GHZ ::: 8GB Dominator 1600mhz ::: GTX660 2GB ::: 2xHD ::: 24" ASUS

Its not your job here to give people a kick in the bum. By all means, Tell them the answer, Refer them back to the manual advise them to recheck what they think they know. Thats great. But lets not be rude about it or try to bring public humiliation to the poster. we all see the same questions here over and over again. Its the nature of forums. But its when (not pointing fingers here) responses become agressive / rude or just plain not helpful is when we start alienating the community and the simming community as a whole will suffer. Peace out:clown_2:

So didn't i just write that? I have the feeling that we talk at cross-purposes here. Where did i kick anybody in the butt? You are getting me confused, is it really me that you complain about? Peace out:clown_2:I'd be really glad if you could point me to any rude and unhelpful posts that i've made. Also if there are any complaints about my writing, i'd like them to be directed at me and not be relayed. However, i think this discussion, should it continue, would be rather suited to be held via PM. This thread has deteriorated enough, so back OT :P Edited January 15, 2009 by sobek Good, fast, cheap. bogusheadbox Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 RE: Kick in the butt Apologies i did misquote your post but am i the only one who thinks that people who do not search themselves before they ask, lack decency? (I'm not talking about total forum noobs, of course) To even suggest someone lacks decency for asking a valid question is giving them a kicking. The original poster did say he looked it up (probably not very well as indicated by him admitting he searched the index section only). And where is the law which dictates that you must read the manual before posting. In any event he received a reply in approx 10 minutes after posting. Probably quicker than looking through the manual using the knowledge the original poster had (not keyword searching in PDF document etc.) General statement not directed to any individual I just don't understand where people get off thinking that if the question is simple, below them, lacked research or has been asked somwhere before, people have the right to start defaming / character bashing. Disclosure no animals were harmed in the making of this post. Peace in and peace out :animals_bunny:
Airway Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 ...now does anyone know which button to press to open the door? :smilewink: Right CTRL & C on your keyboard is the standard keyboard command to open and close the door. There's no clickable button in the cockpit with the same function. Another way of closing the door is to fly faster than 150 km/h and it will automatically close. ;)
