EDIT SOLVED

Updated to latest version of Opentrack, 2022.3.2, and works out of the box with DCS 2.8

Hi all,

After some time away, im trying out DCS 2.8.

Am trying to use opentrack with DCS, and profile is activated correctly in Opentrack, and I can see the head movement, and can center/reset etc in the opentrack software.

In DCS can see the 'TrackIr' axes are displaying in the system/controls/axis commands section.

However, in game the view is fixed and won't move.

Version of opentrack is 2021.1.2

Is this the correct version of opentrack for DCS or are there other settings i must change in the game.

UPDATE

just tried it with TIR and same result. TIR working from camera but game not seeing it. Guessing its a DCS setting i'm missing.

Working with TIR

Thanks

Sometimes I need to stop and start it a few times, or restart OpenTrack. Version shouldn't be an issue. DCS doesn't know.

Thanks

Tried that, Also I confirm TIR works but Opentrack does not with my DCS.

Just confirmed Opentrack works fine in the following games without issue

  • BMS,
  • MSFS2020,
  • XPlane 11
  • Eurotruck sim.
  • project cars.

Be interested in hearing from someone who is using Opentrack in DCS, so i might compare notes.

Cheers

I will tomorrow when my new monitor shows up 😁

Did some fiddling with it on my current monitor and looks promising.

Using a home-built sensor.

Update.

I would suggest finding a decent profile to build on. Took me about 20 minutes to polish mine up. It ain't VR, but damn smoother that I expected for a home-made head tracker and $10 PlayStation camera.

Tried face tracker... it's close but nowhere near as smooth. I will try better face lighting later.

Does the camera have to be positioned in the center for OpenTrack or Freetrack? I'm using it off-center as it prevents the diodes getting out of its field of view as I'm sitting very close to the display. But I'm having troubles with model calibration, even manual.
Also, I suspect the description below is no longer correct:

X + is to the right, - is to the left

Y + is above, - is below

Z + is behind, - is in front

I have no TrackIR and just out of curiosity was checking options using Android phone. That lead me to opentrack. I tried it with PC camera (actually a DroidCam using the Android phone) - but the results were less than ideal, very jittery.

But perhaps the problem was using neuralnet in opentrack with a camera (and probably not placed and lit ideally either). Then there were other Android options for opentrack:

  • Head Tracker for OpenTrack - free, but I didn't get it, it seems it's using the accelerometer, not the camera, but I may be wrong...
  • TrackAR for openTrack (funny, how everyone is caplitalizing different letters in the name of the project 😉) - around 3 EUR
  • and SmoothTrack for around 10 EUR

I went for TrackAR and while the UI is underwhelming (no axes shown) it actually worked quite well for me. So I spent a day to make it run and another weekend to make a video about it. Maybe it will not cover your situation, but I hope it helps:

In my setup I wanted to use a phone under the monitor, either horizontal or vertical. And I was also interested in "hybrid setup" - for some flying I'm lazy to setup the head tracking and want to be able to disable it. All these things are covered in the video.
