Is Petrovich supposed to be blind (when not looking through the sights)?

Hello,

I noticed that Petrovich ceases to call out targets when the doors are shuttered (or the sight is parked).

But, he has large cockpit windows and should be able to spot threats within a few kilometres using his eyes (the old "Mk1 Eyeball"). I can't help but to imagine Petrovich sitting in the front cockpit squeezing his eyes shut as soon as I switch to cannon (or order the sight to be parked prior to a sharp turn).

Is this working as intended? Or will Petrovich someday keep doing his job as an observer - even when he can't look through the sight?

I flew a few sorties with petrovich and for me he finds targets quite well. Even in absolute darkness i just have to tell him where to look and when close enough he finds what to shoot. I mean yes, you have to get close because sometimes when i am to far away he sees nothing but when close enough i am happy with him. I was playing around in the Mission Editor to test him out a bit and even when i place a few trucks in the middle of the forest which are impossible to see petro will see them but like i said, he only works when close enough.

He still is an AI and behaves strange in some cases for example telling me he sees a fighter jet at 10000 feet but the ground troops which are right in front of him are for some reason not interesting and only after a few runs when the jet is too far away he sees whats on the ground.

Yes. Thanks! Although I'm still not 100% certain as maybe Petrovich will only spot threats if the shutters are open.

Yes, Petrovich is very good - but he only look through the sight currently - when the shutter doors are closed (e.g. when 30mm cannon is armed or the sight is parked for maneuvers) he cannot see anything.

Work on the Petrovich AI for DCS: Mi-24P Hind continues, and our latest development has focused on Petrovich background behaviors. These determine what Petrovich will do when not busy blowing stuff up with ATGMs or searching for targets through the periscope sight.
