v2tec Posted November 20, 2022 Posted November 20, 2022 I wonder, if the 2D output (mirroring) when playing in VR costs performance? And does the screen resolution play a role? Did somebody make some tests? I mean it is not necessary to have monitor filled the with VR image and if it would safe performance, why not turning it off. Would you get more performance, if the 2D screen resolution would be lower thant the VR resolution - because somehow, there must be transformation between these resolutions. ________________________ ________ ______ ___ __ _ Win10 64 Pro, i7-6800K 3.4Ghz, 32 GB (DDR4), Asus Aorus 1080 TI WF, TrackIR 5 / RIFT, Thrustmaster Warthog, Fanatec Pedals, 55" oled 4k TV, Modules:A10C, KA-50, Huey, AV-8B, FA-18, F-16, NTTR, Persian Gulf _ __ ___ ____ _____ ______ _______ ____________

speed-of-heat Posted November 20, 2022 Posted November 20, 2022 (edited) The same GPU as is rendering the view in your eyes, but it is a copy not really doing the work a 2nd time… think of it this way, if you have two monitors, and in windows you set it up to duplicate the display on both, it doesn’t impact performance there either… It’s a very simple thing to test… Or you could just search the forums for everyone else who has tried it… Edited November 20, 2022 by speed-of-heat SYSTEM SPECS: Hardware AMD 9800X3D, 64Gb RAM, 4090 FE, Virpil T50CM3 Throttle, WinWIng Orion 2 & F-16EX + MFG Crosswinds V2, Varjo Aero SOFTWARE: Microsoft Windows 11, VoiceAttack & VAICOM PRO YOUTUBE CHANNEL: @speed-of-heat

Hello, Some people have tested with Occulus, It is very useful on mid - system My own test with Rift + 1080ti + i5-10600k - i can fly 90hz everywhere in my favorite test mission with OTT desktop resolution 800*600, - whereas i get 45hz over city without OTT So i use OTT desktop resolution 800*600 for now Edited November 23, 2022 by fab.13 1
winghunter Posted December 31, 2022 Posted December 31, 2022 (edited) If your system isnt GPU limited you may not see a performance difference. But if it is, then there could be some gains see Another reason is to improve headset tracking, as DOF cameras of headsets can be confused by the mirror image Edited January 1, 2023 by winghunter DCS Web Editor - New 3D Mission Editor for DCS that runs in your browser DCS Web Viewer free browser based mission planner 4090 RTX, 13700KF, water cooled, Quest 3
