manbird Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 For those of you that are still curious, I did a number of landings on different grounds to see if the complaint about not being able to land on dirt was a Sim limitation or a Pilot limitation. Turns out, through VERY delicate use of the controls and maintaining virtually zero speeds laterally, I was able to land on a basketball court, football field, and 2 different patches of grass/dirt. This maybe true in reality as well, that any rotational or sideways movement prior to touchdown (regardless of how much) will result in the chopper tipping over. If it's possible to land on the grass in an Autorotation and still be upright remains to be seen, I'm not that good to run those types of tests! Perhaps someone here is! Other than emergencies, I have no sensible reason to land on anything other than a FARP or airfield, so anyone who has been successful landing on dirt with a damaged Heli let us know. Manbird out..
ruprecht Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 I've tried some slope landings and they always end badly. Noting though that they're not the easiest thing IRL either, but they should be possible. Any devs/testers care to comment? Sunjah Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 I landed fine on grass, well, a little bumpy, but I landed:joystick:. The thing was, when I took off again I blew up before the wheels even left the ground. I don't know if it's a bug, I damaged something or what, but it was a sad moment, that's for sure! Remember, on Nov. 4th, vote for Black Shark for President!!!

Aser Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 As real pilot I would say that the shock absorbers are too sensitive... The thing was, when I took off again I blew up before the wheels even left the ground. I don't know if it's a bug, I damaged something or what, but it was a sad moment, that's for sure! I think that also happened to me. Regards Aser AW-139 Pilot
ZaltysZ Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 Don't forget to turn anti-dust system on before taking off from unprepared locations. Wir sehen uns in Walhalla.
Dave317 Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 I've landed just fine on the grass when an engine got shot up. Haven't tried taking off again from grass though.

Regards Aser I think so too, almost as if it won't allow the heli to slide on the grass. It's like it has ultra grip on the ground.
