Vekkinho Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 I noticed a slight FPS increase by using this mod! I made a mission with a MiG-29 flying in con layer (cca 10500m MSL) and recorded a track with default FC smoke. Then I installed this mod and played back the track and FPS increased (from 74 to 83 FPS). I must mention I used built in FPS counter (Ctrl+BkSpc). 1 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Pilotasso Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 I think this is the original smoke trail that ED intended for LOMAC but was ditched because of some gfx couldnt handle it too well. I tried to do this before but never quite figure out how. So I would like to know how it was donne? Another questions: is if afected by the toilet paper trail bug? (wich manifests itself when you have zoomed out view from the cockpit) .
Mustang Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 (edited) Another questions: is if afected by the toilet paper trail bug? (wich manifests itself when you have zoomed out view from the cockpit) Good question! i'll have a look and find out. edit: unfortunately, the toilet tissue smoke effect still exists, bah! :( Still, even with that ugly glitch, it's still an awesome and recommended mod for LO and DCS :) Edited January 20, 2009 by Mustang 1
Vekkinho Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 The only thing that might bother the sensitive in this mod is the shadow that seems a bit too pronounced thus the dirty appearance of the smoketrails! But fat, puffy look is awsome! [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Mustang Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 Another great example of this mod working in DCS:BS :) 1

Pilotasso Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 You cant, its a long lasting bug that has never been debunked. I though the new MOD was using flare smoke model but its just a texture MOD. Using Flare smoke would cure the problem. 1 .
Vekkinho Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 New smoke definitely adds some FPS! I kept testing it for few days in a row, simply to rule out possibility of different CPU / GPU temperatures that may cause FPS variation but each time I use this smoke mod my FPS increase by cca 10%. Very good! [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

Vekkinho Posted January 24, 2009 Posted January 24, 2009 I made another test, this time on the other computer slightly less powerful than mine (although mine is also a cold war relic) and results were similar. However, I noticed no improvement in LOD of the smoke, for instance, I'm looking for realism so instead of having diamond marker in the HUD of the plane that supports no such option IRL (Fulcrum or Flanker) I create a FAC flight that's using a marker rocket pod to mark a target I'm supposed to take out. I've noticed that orange smoke looks pretty unreal from distance greater than 2 km. I can only try playing with settings in LOCFG to reduce opacity of the smoke but I believe it's smoke model LOD that needs some editing! [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
