Gun Jam Posted December 4, 2022 Posted December 4, 2022 Hello 3090 win 10 most of the system is about 4 years old the GPU is less than a year old. Was fine until a few weeks ago. I dont recall making any changes. The GPU fails to ramp up power / load when a task is asked of it (like DCS or a GPU benchmark) I can run Heaven benchmark and get 30fps and see no increase in board power from the gpu. I reinstall the driver and I get 300 fps and 100% gpu load and board power goes from 120 to 380w. Everything is fine until I shutdown the pc or sleep or restart and its back to the same 30 fps in Heaven and DCS reports FPSVr at 99% gpu load and 8fps. This is not limited to VR and seems to be not related to VR. any suggestions appreciated. Thanks
hsth Posted December 4, 2022 Posted December 4, 2022 Did you clean system for GPU driver with DDU? If not, I'd suggest trying that before installing latest GPU driver. Also check that Win 10 is also updated to latest version. And check motherboard for latest bios if that is applicable for your system. Some manufacturers have updated version for Win 10. 1
Hiob Posted December 4, 2022 Posted December 4, 2022 Just some random things to check: - proper DDU clean as suggested above - latest chipset and mobo drivers - windows up to date - windows energy settings - available BIOS updates for your GPU - any fps caps applied? (DCS, NVCP, Afterburner/riva, Geforce experience…. - any third party apps running…. 1 "Muß ich denn jedes Mal, wenn ich sauge oder saugblase den Schlauchstecker in die Schlauchnut schieben?"
BitMaster Posted December 4, 2022 Posted December 4, 2022 Very tricky and a quick Google search says you are not alone with this symptom. In addition to all the above, I would also use one of the known good registry cleaners and sweep Windows with it. I use macecraft.com but you may pick one that you trust. Also, create a NEW user with admin rights and see if that account is also affected. As a bigger measure to test and if you can, install Ubuntu ( or any one you like ), install the NV drivers, Steam and some Linux compatible games ( I advice not to use DCS in this test ) and see if the card runs normally in Linux. Mine does is both OS's. If all goes south, reinstall Windows. 1 Gigabyte Aorus X570S Master - Ryzen 5900X - Gskill 64GB 3200/CL14@3600/CL14 - Sapphire Nitro+ 7800XT - 4x Samsung 980Pro 1TB - 1x Samsung 870 Evo 1TB - 1x SanDisc 120GB SSD - Heatkiller IV - MoRa3-360LT@9x120mm Noctua F12 - Corsair AXi-1200 - TiR5-Pro - Warthog Hotas - Saitek Combat Pedals - Asus XG27ACG QHD 180Hz - Corsair K70 RGB Pro - Win11 Pro/Linux - Phanteks Evolv-X
Gun Jam Posted December 4, 2022 Author Posted December 4, 2022 Thanks for your help guys. I think I got it sorted. I ran DDU and almost seemed to fix the issue until I did a restart then back to the same ol crap... Hum okay lets read on to the next easiest thing to check. BitMaster had a brilliant idea of using google and suggested I wasn't the only one with this problem. Taking a page from his book I also found topics that exactly describe my issue. Reading though those the easiest check was MSI afterburner. Someone said that it had reset power limits to 25% I was like WTF no way well AB is just 2 clicks away and sure as <profanity> it was at 25% **** that software im not even sure why I still have it. I set that back to 100% and saved the settings its solid now. Im pretty sure that was the issue. Thanks -Gun
BitMaster Posted December 4, 2022 Posted December 4, 2022 Google... ! Glad you fixed it. One issue I had last nite at 1am... : Virtual CPU0 crashed, taking a VM machine down...hmmmm...somehow I saw that before...and fixed it before...it's a VMware thing mixed with some other strange crap, that I remembered. So I copied the nice VMware error log in chunks into Google but after 15min I still hadn't had that "This was it !, GOT it" no...took longer. So I rephrased my issue ( the number 1 skill you need is phrase your error correctly to get the good results !!!! ) and here it came, hidden half the page down. You will crash as soon as you start any 2nd VM if you have capped FPS in NV Cpanel ( only there ! ) Who would think a Virtual CPU error on a headless Linux Server is caused by your NV Cpanel capping fps !?!? Nuts but true. 1 Gigabyte Aorus X570S Master - Ryzen 5900X - Gskill 64GB 3200/CL14@3600/CL14 - Sapphire Nitro+ 7800XT - 4x Samsung 980Pro 1TB - 1x Samsung 870 Evo 1TB - 1x SanDisc 120GB SSD - Heatkiller IV - MoRa3-360LT@9x120mm Noctua F12 - Corsair AXi-1200 - TiR5-Pro - Warthog Hotas - Saitek Combat Pedals - Asus XG27ACG QHD 180Hz - Corsair K70 RGB Pro - Win11 Pro/Linux - Phanteks Evolv-X
Gun Jam Posted December 4, 2022 Author Posted December 4, 2022 yeah thats what makes doing this on your own almost impossible without some type of collective knowledge to narrow down results. There's literally a million things it could be and they all depend on each other to a degree and there's no easy way to just pull software offline and divide the issue that way. Google and proper key words will do that for you though and will message forums.
