Homelander Posted December 13, 2022 Posted December 13, 2022 Hi Folks Is there a way to disable an axis by a device button? E.g: Disable on-the-fly the z-axis (twist) of my VPC Constellation ALPHA Prime Grip if I want to use the rudder pedals for landing? Thanks in advance. imacken Posted December 13, 2022 Posted December 13, 2022 I don't really understand your question. Do you use the twist axis at all? If no, then just disable it in the VPC software, if yes, then just don't bind rudder to it in-game and bind your pedals instead. Sorry if I am misunderstanding! Baldrick33 Posted December 13, 2022 Posted December 13, 2022 If you want to have both the twist axis and pedals axis available you can use a modifier (as a switch) to move the twist axis to something you don't use. E.g. map the modifier+twist axis to an unused camera control. When you press the modifier the twist axis will no longer control the rudder and you can use only the pedals. Press the modifier again and the twist axis and pedals are both enabled. imacken Posted December 13, 2022 Posted December 13, 2022 I'm being a bit slow on this, but why would he want to bind the z axis to rudder if he wants to use the pedals for rudder? Homelander Posted December 13, 2022 Author Posted December 13, 2022 If I use my rudder pedals, I’ve to take a decent position in my chair. Sometimes is it too exhausting for me, and I prefer to switch in a comfortable sitting position (without my feet on the pedals) during a long mission. I hope you now know what I'm imagining. jonsky7 Posted December 13, 2022 Posted December 13, 2022 (edited) You can bind both controllers to the rudder axis and use whichever you want. Only problem is DCS "sees" the last input, so if say you are holding a bit of left pedal, and accidentally introduce a bit of twist in your grip while moving the cyclic, the axis may centre. But @Baldrick33 's idea is really rather good. To do Assign the rudder axis to your pedals (assuming have centering spring) to set up your switchable twist grip You have two options A modifier - activates the control when the modifier button is held A switch - activates on/off at the press of the switch (DCS comes with some pre-configured modifiers ALT, CTRL, WIN key etc, but you can set your own by clicking the add button under modifiers) Or you add a key/button to act as a modifier switch and call it what you like eg Then when you set your twist grip as rudder, choose your modifier Now the twist will only act as a axis when either Modifier - modifier button is held Switch - the switch is activated Edited December 13, 2022 by jonsky7 1

That makes sense. The thing is, if you bind your twist axis and pedals to rudder, you can chose either at any time. Both will work always. 1 Intel i7 12700K · MSI Gaming X Trio RTX 4090 · ASUS ROG STRIX Z690-A Wi-Fi · MSI 32" MPG321UR QD · Samsung 970 500Gb M.2 NVMe · 2 x Samsung 850 Evo 1Tb · 2Tb HDD · 32Gb Corsair Vengance 3000MHz DDR4 · Windows 11 · Thrustmaster TPR Pedals · Tobii Eye Tracker 5 · Thrustmaster F/A-18 Hornet Grip · Virpil MongoosT-50CM3 Base · Virpil Throttle MT-50 CM3 · Virpil Alpha Prime Grip · Virpil Control Panel 2 · Thrustmaster F-16 MFDs · HTC Vive Pro 2 · Total Controls Multifunction Button Box
Baldrick33 Posted December 13, 2022 Posted December 13, 2022 (edited) @jonsky7that is a more elegant explanation My original idea of using a redundant control was based on an early collective solution I bodged up. I had a CH Flightstick which I removed the springs from and installed it horizontally to act as a primitive collective. Of course it would drop if I let go of it. So I used a modifier button to "lock in" its position prior to letting it down to free up my left hand. The modifier was used with the Y axis to switch it to an unused camera control, leaving its position as a collective frozen. I would then pick up the collective to roughly the last position and press the modifier again. It worked pretty well. I now have a Virpil collective which of course is much better but my bodged CH stick collective served me well in the interim!
