Gunfreak Posted December 15, 2022 Posted December 15, 2022 So you punk down any plane at of skills and give it any bomb, and that plane will hit it's target 95% of the time, it will do perfect nano second strafs, it will do the most super human fantastical stuff. Now you put down a Hind, Cobra or Apache AI, and half the time they will crash into something, and the chances of them actually hitting a target is close to zero. (even on Ace) I'm asking the AI apache for the most simple thing, use the cannon to shoot some technicals and infantry, after two apaches having expended 600 rounds togearter, not a single enemy was hit, and that was the round where one of them didn't crash. And It's not just fully AI either, you have an AI helicopter wingman and he will probably not hit anything, or crash. i7 13700k @5.2ghz, GTX 5090 OC, 128Gig ram 4800mhz DDR5, M2 drive.
MadKreator Posted December 15, 2022 Posted December 15, 2022 same with jets sometimes. They seem to hit targets, if they actually respond to your commands. But their general flight logic is all jacked up! Randomly ejecting, even on final approach, harriers hovering over a ship deck the ejecting for no reason, flights coming back to bases after not even trying to attack their target then turning around and flying the waypoints all over again. Planes leaving their approach pattern next to an airfield and decide to go AAR last minute. May times flights will go to their ingress point and just turn around a RTB without even attempting to engage their targets. Sometimes they will only do one pass at their target and drop a single bomb out of 6, barely damage once, then decide to come home with almost a full load out. The Ai logic is something else, lemme tell ya Intel i7 13700k, ASUS rog strix z790A, 64gigs G.Skill Trident DDR5 @6400Mhz, Nvidia RTX 4080FE, 4TB, 2x 2TB, 1TB Samsung NVME, 1TB Samsung SSD, Corsair RM1000x, Corsair Titan 360 X AIO cooler, Lian Li LanCool 2, VKB Gunfighter Ultimate, VKB Custom STECS , MFG Crosswinds, Moza FFB, Virpil Collective, Track IR5, 48” LG UltraGear OLED & HP 24” touchscreen for Helios,49” Samsung Ultrawide, Streamdeck XL, Corsair Virtuoso RGB Headphones

But they are more capable in use of weapons, and don't crash that often into the ground. I first noticed this when I made a mission a year ago I added a Cobra gunship for support for some Huey's and the Cobra just kept crashing into buldings. Then I did a mission in the Hind and found that my wingman had zero kills(if my wigman had been an F16 or A10, he would have far more kills than me) But Gunship AI seems incapable to actually hitting anything. i7 13700k @5.2ghz, GTX 5090 OC, 128Gig ram 4800mhz DDR5, M2 drive.
Dragon1-1 Posted December 15, 2022 Posted December 15, 2022 Most "random ejections" for AI come from running out of gas. The fixed wing AI has many problems, but the one of the big ones is that they don't know how to watch the gas. That's the root of many of the other problems. Some of that can be dealt with careful scripting, some not.

BuzzLine Posted December 15, 2022 Posted December 15, 2022 You would expect that not crashing into the ground is a somewhat basic skill for a helicopter pilot, right ? Think again. A game of DCS Liberation will give you a whole new ... err ... "appreciation" of the skill and quality of the AI when it's left alone (fixed or rotary, it's all at the same level). That bodes well for the dynamic campaign !
