All of a sudden I get huge cpu spikes then Steam VR crashes. Has anyone else had this? I’m still on 2.7 and was using Open XR but thought I’d try out SVR again (less motion reprojection).

Im supposed to be having a break from DCS, but I just can’t live with out it. *waves fist at ED* 😉 All was fine a couple of months ago, would the fact windows needs an update be the problem?

Thanks

it might be there were updates to both WMR and WMR for SVR, also check out the windows store for updates as well

Thank you, I will check that out. Seems likely it’s an update that’s been missed as nothing else has changed on my pc since last I used it and it worked fine.

Thanks for the speedy response SoH 👍

Alas after updating everything except DCS it still crashes. I’ve noticed just before it crashes my RAM and VRAM max out as well as the cpu spikes.

It starts to go tits up as soon as some strain is put on my system.

Its like DCS knows I’ve been unfaithful with il2 and it’s now punishing me. 😉

Are you on the beta version of Steam VR? Try switching.

(This worked once for me in the past when I was getting a lot of crashes)

I thought that might be the culprit too, but I’m not. Maybe I should try the beta and see if it works better.

Digitalvole,

I'm seeing the same thing.  Seems like every other time I spawn in SteamVR crashes.  It seems to be specific to DCS I don't have this with the other VR titles I played (including IL2).  Might have to put down DCS until they sort out VR.  It's kind of rage inducing to get through putting in your waypoints on a server and then have DCS cause SteamVR to crash.

Are you on Windows Mixed Reality? If so, definitely give the beta a try:

We fixed an issue with a memory leak that caused VRAM to fill out.

Yeah, it’s very annoying. Have you tried OpenXR? That works very well, though the motion smoothing isn’t quite as good as SVR.

Thanks mbucchia! The memory leek sounds like the culprit. Will try this out as soon as I get the chance. 👍

Great to hear and thank you for the feedback!

We will be promoting that beta to stable in the next few days (if not today perhaps).
