Since it seems that VR, and DCS in particular, is the bastard step child of all the online reviewers and bench-markers, I’d like to see some real numbers from real users. These online pendants will happily test new hardware against hundreds of games but very very few in VR and I don’t think I have ever seem DCS included in any of them, flat screen or VR.

If you were lucky enough the get your hands on one of AMD’s 7K series or nVidia's 4K’s, would you please post what it is your upgrading from and the basic numbers you were seeing along with the what your purchased and the new numbers. Please include your CPU as bottle necking could be an issue and skew the numbers.

Hi I went from  EVGA 3090, to a 4090FE last week here are my numbers, all settings (otherwise in the O/S , remained the same, except i moved to a native 100% scale for the 4090 from 90% NIS.

FPS app CPU(ms) render CPU(ms) GPU (ms) Notes Upscaler Scale
67.82 7.87 6.60 12.78 3090 BASELINE 90hz no MR Standard Settings (2852 x 2786) NIS 90%
89.14 7.00 5.75 9.95 4090 BASELINE 90hz no MR Standard Settings (3168 x 3096)  NONE 100%

I'm running a G2 with Open XR, the testing was conducted using a test track, with a stabilised head position etc. which I have been using for ages.  I think it was a good investment.

I upgraded from a 6900xt to a 4080 three weeks ago.  Here are my numbers from same settings, SteamVR and same track file in OB 2.8.0.32235 using my Pimax 8K+ at 150 deg Horizontal FOV:

GPU              FPS

6900XT        52.9

4080             69.3

But the extra benefit I got was the ability to used OpenXR with the 4080, which was not possible with a 6900 / Pimax HMD.  Using the same scenario and setting with OpenXR and Fix Foveated rendering, here are my results:

GPU              FPS

6900XT        52.9

4080             82.1

This is quite a jump (55% uplift) with the same level of detail and image quality.  The Pimax with its wide FOV is well suited for using Foveated rendering as you barely notice the lower resolution rendering on the edge of the image.

As for my CPU, it is not struggling unless the mission being run is horribly too crowded like in DCS Liberation...

I'm sure the results will not be as impressive as these, but I am super curious about how a stock and aib 7900xtx will do.

I think you will also agree that AMD released the 7K before the drivers have been flushed out. I'm wondering if it's worth it to buy now in hopes the newer drivers will let the 7900XTX beat the 4080 in most games. AMD doesn't have the best track record in terms of their drivers.
