Hello,

I just wanted to ask a basic question. I started training air refuel recently, and I can already refuel with the F-18 and F-14. I'm starting with the F-16 as well. If by chance we don't want a full refuel, is there a way to report this to the tanker, or do we simply choose the "abort refuel" option? Also, if we are using the Probe-and-drogue in the KC-135 MPRS, how do we get them to extend the basket on the right side? He always gives me the basket on the left side.

Thanks

1) If you are done refueling either tell him abort refuel or fly away.

2) Right basket only comes out if the left basket is occupied. If you are the only one refueling, you will always get the left one.

Yes, "Abort refuel" will stop fuel transfer, you can move away and let another plane get a drink or just continue on your flight.

Right-side basket is used when there is already a plane in the left-side one. So the first one to call "intent to refuel" will get left-side basket and the second one will get the right-side.

Just to clarify for anyone else, the initial "intent to refuel" call just starts the AAR process, it does not yet assign baskets to aircraft. Aircraft can call "intent to refuel" in any order.

Assigning a basket happens with calling "ready pre contact" AND when in the correct position. The first aircraft to call "ready pre contact" and be in position,(not receiving the "return pre contact call"), will get the left basket, the next aircraft the right. Note that if the first aircraft hears "refueling complete" before the second aircraft successfully calls "ready pre contact" on the right basket, they'll have to change back to the left, as it's now deemed empty and has priority again.
