Eugel Posted December 26, 2022 Posted December 26, 2022 I´ve been trying for many hours now to setup my mission so that I can pickup infantry with a player-controlled APC and I just can´t get this to work. So I´m wondering if the mission editor or combined arms actually has this functionality or not... Here´s the setup: In this mission, two groups of US infantry (10 men each) are surrounded in a city and have to be evacuated. I can fly there with a Huey and pick them up without problems, works as intended. Now as an alternative, I also want players to be able to use combined arms and get them out with APCs, so I setup a convoi. After a lot of trial and error I managed to set everything up so that when I let the AI control the convoi, they drive up to the first group and they get in. But, when I take control of a vehicle myself and drive up to the infantry, they do nothing. They don´t appear in the radio menu (as they do with the Huey), so I can´t tell them to get in, they just do nothing. I tried with several different vehicles (Marder, Fuchs, M113) Is there some secret key combination for embarking/disembarking infantry ? Or is this simply not possible with Combined Arms ?
Solution Looney Posted December 28, 2022 Solution Posted December 28, 2022 AFAIK vanilla DCS only allows troops to be transported by helicopters. If you want more options for transportation, please look at the Ciribob's CTLD script here: https://github.com/ciribob/DCS-CTLD [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Commodore 64 | MOS6510 | VIC-II | SID6581 | DD 1541 | KCS Power Cartridge | 64Kb | 32Kb external | Arcade Turbo
Eugel Posted January 1, 2023 Author Posted January 1, 2023 Thanks, I thought as much. Wanted to stay clear of scripts as I am a total noob in that area, but setting up CTLD was easier than I thought and it works fine for what I wanted...
Apocalypse31 Posted January 8, 2023 Posted January 8, 2023 (edited) APC/IFV can transport infantry. BUT.... It requires specific waypoints in game for Embarking and Disembarking, it's not something you can do on the 'fly' and not something that can be done by a player. It might only meet the intent of your scenario if the AI is controlling these assets. You can also start the infantry pre-mounted. It's not much 'easier', other than avoiding them doing the weird infantry-dance that they do. Another bit of frustration with Combined Arms is that people have no idea what the capabilities are of the module. Edited January 8, 2023 by Apocalypse31 1 1 TankSim Discord

Well it doesn´t help that the Combined Arms manual is from 2013. As I said, the infantry and waypoint actions are setup correctly, as they will embark into the player-controlled Huey, and also the AI controlled APC just fine. The frustration is simply that the APC can transport the infantry group, as the AI has proven. They just won´t get in without a radio command in a player controlled vehicle. And unlike in the Huey, that command is not available in the radio menu when controlling an APC.
