dmatt76 Posted December 29, 2022 Posted December 29, 2022 (edited) After last 2.8 updates clouds in VR finally look great. No jittering, no pixelation, no blur on the horizon line! Like on a monitor! Please don't break it in the future. Also performance is better! Edit: OK, after more testing, the jittering is still present o certain type of clouds. More thick overcloud is usually nice and clear but partial, thin layers of clouds are still jittery mess. Edited January 2, 2023 by dmatt76
Zafix Posted December 30, 2022 Posted December 30, 2022 I don't think we are playing the same 2.8 version. Still getting a lot of aliasing on some type of clouds, especially at dusk 6
Gun Jam Posted January 1, 2023 Posted January 1, 2023 I notice the shadows will now form a grid pattern sometimes in VR (not sure about 2d) Ive always noticed that the clouds look like a grid matrix. Im sure thats how they are built. I can see a small grid that makes a larger grid that makes a much larger grid. But the shadows have never made a grid patter until now. VR ultra settings for clouds.

ColinM9991 Posted January 2, 2023 Posted January 2, 2023 I'd love to see screenshots. The clouds have been a jittery mess for me in these past weeks. Awful aliasing issues around the edges with some jumping.

St4rgun Posted January 2, 2023 Posted January 2, 2023 (edited) I don't think this kind of thread is appropriate while the user base is still trying to get answers (and not getting) from ED on why the clouds are STILL super ugly aliased in VR... The clouds for me changed in the good way months ago, but there's a spcific type of cloud layer which is still badly aliased on STANDARD settings. Quality with ULTRA cloud settings is much better, but it hurts frametime a lot. Look at here. I don't think you'll ever get an honest answer for that, at this point it is what it is and people can only hope. I'm also running High clouds as, with Ultra, I lose frametime and 15-20FPS, but even on High the quality looks worse now (shimmering, extremely aliased, jagged lines going through clouds) than it has in the past months

I'm using Standard now with MSAA 2x and trying to tolerate that some layers are terrible while generally the sky looks pretty awesome. 1 PC: 14700K | Gigabyte Z790 | Palit 3090 GamingPro | 32GB | Win10 Pro HMD: HP Reverb G2 | OpenXR @ 150% | DCS 2.9: PD: 1.0, DLSS 4 Profile "K" / "Performance" with Sharpening 1 Controllers: VKB Gunfighter MkIII base & 200 mm curved extension center mounted + TM F16 Grip / MCG Pro Grip | TM TFRP
