DaveSD Posted January 7, 2023 Posted January 7, 2023 (edited) Hey everyone, I apologize if this is in the wrong place or if it's already been discussed, but I couldn't find anything by doing a search. So with the upcoming technology (multi-threading and such, I guess*), are there any suggestions about computer specifications I should be considering when I buy a computer specifically for DCS? I'm currently using a pretty powerful laptop for DCS (with external monitor of course) but I'm sure it'll probably become less suitable for DCS in the near future. I'm fairly comfortable with building my own - I did that a long time ago - so suggestions for a collection of compatible parts would be helpful too. *I worked in IT for about 25 years, but not in anything that involved PC technology. I'm clueless about it. Thanks all, Dave Edited January 7, 2023 by DaveSD
ED Team BIGNEWY Posted January 8, 2023 ED Team Posted January 8, 2023 Hi, What are your current Laptop specs? Faster and more is always better when it comes to PC's spec. My personal thoughts for DCS minimum spec: 4Ghz CPU or faster 32GB RAM minimum GPU with large VRAM capacity My spec is below: Windows 11, NVIDIA MSI RTX 3090, Intel® i9-10900K 3.70GHz, 5.30GHz Turbo, Corsair Hydro Series H150i Pro, 64GB RAM @3200, ASUS ROG Strix Z490-F Gaming 1 Forum rules - DCS Crashing? VR Flight Guy in PJ Pants Posted January 8, 2023 Posted January 8, 2023 First of all, I disagree with the above: don't buy laptop, not very expandable. Second, what is your budget? Then people can tell you what to pick in each department. I Fly, Therefore I Am. One cannot go around not saying "Thank you" every time these days, can't you? =DROOPY= Posted January 8, 2023 Posted January 8, 2023 @BIGNEWYI'm still a bit ignorant about about computer hardware, so what is the "5.30Ghz Turbo" ? That one lost me... Thanks in advance! Moxica Posted January 8, 2023 Posted January 8, 2023 (edited) Graphics card need as much VRAM as you can afford. Mine has 12Gb, I'd like 24, as the 12 is always maxed out. I have 64Gb of system ram, but it never goes beyond 32. Oh! And a cabinet with good cooling properties. reece146 Posted January 9, 2023 Posted January 9, 2023 (edited) Honestly, there is nothing in the new list of engine features for DCS that any computer from the last 2-3 years (or older) can't deal with. DCS today can't make full use of a 5600X or 10700k processor. And the new GPU technologies won't affect 30X0 or higher GPUs. If anything, it'll finally use them properly. An argument can likely be made that 10X0 and 20X0 GPUs may see some more life. We'll see. Anyway - I wouldn't worry too much about it at this point. Just ride it out and see what develops.
