Failures not working in LO FC 1.12a

I'm a bit out of the loop, so if this has been asked and answered before, drop me a link by PM and delete this post, no prob about that...

 

OTOH, I did use the Search function (searched only Titles) and didn't come up with any useful answer regarding my question, so here it goes...

 

Are the failures working, or not (bugged?)? I'm setting up a training mission for a single Su-27, and I need the systems to fail (HUD, CRT and autopilot) in order to force the pilot to use the ADI and HSI to land in bad weather (I set the cloud ceiling to 350 m AGL, which should be at least close to realistic). I've set the failures to ocurr a minute apart from each other and to last for two hours with 100% probability, but when the time comes, nothing happens... Does somebody have an advice..?

Failure time is time from the mission beginning, so if you set 12:05 - it will occur only after 12 hours of gameplay.

Set 00:01 in both fields and 100% prob and wait for 2 minutes.

It's like this (I have russian version of LO FC, so I'll write russian terms also)...

 

In the Failures/Отказы tab there are two columns, first is "Failure ocurring after (hh:mm)/После (чч:мм)", and second is "Duration (hh:mm)/В течение (чч:мм)".

 

I want failures of SAU (don't know the english term for this since I have russian version, but I guess it's the autopilot - second button from the top)/САУ, HUD/ИЛС and MFD/МФД. I have set the times as follows: SAU/САУ 00:15/02:00, HUD/ИЛС 00:17/02:59 and MFD/МФД 00:16/02:59 respectively, with the Probability/Вероятность slider set to 100%.

 

When the time comes (15, 16 and 17 minutes into the mission), nothing happens. Any and all suggestions are welcome...

According to your failure times you should experience a SAU (autopilot) failure in period from 15-17 minutes into the mission, it's 17-20 min for HUD and 19 minutes for MFD.

 

Make sure you hit OK button in the lower part of the failures list and make sure last figure in failure timings reads 001. (First day)!

 

Then go to Setup menu and select difficulty, Make sure you got failures enabled!

With this setting you will get a failure in a timeframe of 16 - 195(!) minutes from the beginning of the mission.

No, no, your explanation in the first reply is not all that clear as you think. Only now you used a proper term.

 

Correct explanation should be that "Duration" is the timeframe during which a failure could occur. That is not clearly described anywhere, and the layout in ME forces you to think that "Duration" is the time during which the failure will be in effect, after which a failure will be removed. That is very logical to anyone that actually uses English lang.

The problem is (again) that Russian translation into English is rather poor. Not all parts are on the same level of quality, and some parts are translated using quite simple dictionary. In this case, "Timeframe" would be more preferable term than "Duration".

As DarkWanderer notes, you have set the first failure to occur sometime in the period between (mission start) +15 to +135. The failure will occur no sooner than 15 minutes into the mission and no later than 135 minutes into the mission. The setting for the other failures are set up similarly.

With all due respect, I have to say that that is not the best choice of words on part of the developer, both in russian and english version.

 

Thank you all for your help. It is working now the way I wanted it to work, although I'm contemplating a few minor tweaks regarding the mission success criteria and event timing...
