SkateZilla Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 (edited) The GPUs look like they were improperly re-pasted and the paste dried to the GPU and was torn during heatsink removal. I know he says never opened, but there are definite signs that a few of them were in the images posted on his forum/facebook. that being said, they all appear to have exceeded max temps, but the 6800/6900 Hotspot isnt even the center of the GPU and if the GPU hit a catastrophic temp, then VDDC #1 would have also blown up and in the images VDDC #1 shows no signs of thermal damage. So here is what's not being reported: ~50 Units out of Millions sold, -All within the last month, -Because MFG Repair/Replacement warranty only covers if the seal is in tact, most of the cards show signs of being previously re-pasted, so warranty is likely voided, and some MFGs already ended Support for 6K Series purchases before a specific date. Also as of December 13th, AMD / MFGs stopped services unregistered / warranty voided cards. I'd say the users replaced the TIM and Overtightened the coolers and cracked the GPU. EightyDuce Posted January 11, 2023 Posted January 11, 2023 Interesting. I've seen a few of this guys videos in the past, he does some wild repair videos. Definitely knows his way a round a GPU, honestly, electronics in general. EightyDuce Posted January 20, 2023 Posted January 20, 2023 (edited) TLDR most cards have a sketchy background (mining OP). That's the danger of buying used cards from a sketch source, especially whwre they are run ragged as they would be in a mining rig. Looks like AMD bad news make a lot of dosh from contributors for those Youtube gurus... SkateZilla Posted January 20, 2023 Posted January 20, 2023 So Miners sold them all off when Mining took a hit, Then they were all warranty voided as they were likely submerged in mineral oil. Bought cheap to play games, and boom GPU gets trashed. 2 Windows 10 Pro, Ryzen 2700X @ 4.6Ghz, 32GB DDR4-3200 GSkill (F4-3200C16D-16GTZR x2), ASRock X470 Taichi Ultimate, XFX RX6800XT Merc 310 (RX-68XTALFD9) 3x ASUS VS248HP + Oculus HMD, Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS + MFDs
