lwalter Posted January 15, 2023 Posted January 15, 2023 If I don't activate the "precise" mode, then enter the grid coordinates work fine and what I entered is reflected in the waypoint screen. If I toggle on "precise", then select grid square and then enter coordinates on UFC, neither my grid square, neither my coordinates are kept. I would think it's exactly the same procedure between non-precise and precise grid coordinates, but correct me if I'm missing something. iMac Retina 5K, 27-inch, i7 4 GHz, 32 GB RAM, AMD R9 M395X 4 GB | Thrustmaster HOTAS Warthog | Cougar MFD | MFG Crosswind | EDTracker Pro | Realteus ForceFeel DCS World | Bf109 | Fw190 A8/D9 | P47 | P51 | Spitfire | I16 | C101 | L39 | F86F | MiG15 | MiG19 | MiG21 | FC3 | A10C | AJS37 | AV8BNA | F5 | F14 | F16 | F/A18 | M2000 | JF17 | Christen Eagle | Yak52 | SA342 | UH1H | Mi8 | Ka50 | Combined Arms | NS430 | Persian Gulf | Normandy | Channel | Syria | NTTR | WWII Assets
Solution Tholozor Posted January 15, 2023 Solution Posted January 15, 2023 Make sure you're inputting 10-digit coordinates for precise grid. 1 REAPER 51 | Tholozor VFA-136 (c.2007): https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3305981/ Arleigh Burke Destroyer Pack (2020): https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3313752/
rob10 Posted January 15, 2023 Posted January 15, 2023 And if you're only given 8 digits, add a zero after the first 4 and after the last 4 (i.e. 1234 5678 becomes 12340 56780) 1
CBStu Posted January 16, 2023 Posted January 16, 2023 Sometimes I get mixed up on using the longer precise version also. One thing I discovered is that you can only enter so many digits, ie; just a portion of coordinate and then hit enter. It will then pop up some note (that I don't remember right now) and allow you to enter the rest of the coordinate and hit enter again. I 'think' you enter 6 digits and hit enter and then the last 4 digits and hit enter.

Sounds more like precise DMS where you put in the initial 6-digit DMS, hit enter, then input the decimal seconds. CBStu Posted January 25, 2023 Posted January 25, 2023 I flew a user files mission yesterday where they provided coordinates in a 4 pairs of digits format and reminded to click 'Precise' before entering the new #s. The waypoint was already in the system as a 6 digit #. The coordinates they provided in the text were N 43-26-26.48, E 39-55-59.73. I entered them as two 4 digit numbers. I tried to enter the first six digits but it would only accept four digits, hit enter, the last four digits. I got blown up by a SAM I think before having a chance to release any bombs so not sure it worked to define the target or not but that was the only way they could be entered. I am curious. How is this being used in RL today? Have they dropped all the less accurate formats by now? I assume that the several formats exist because at the time frame of the DCS FA-18, GPS was somewhat new and evolving. Is there just one format finally?
Tholozor Posted January 25, 2023 Posted January 25, 2023 (edited) The coordinates provided to you were in precise DMS (DD°MM'SS.ss"), the Hornet's default coordinate format is DDM (DD°MM.mmmm' if set to PRECISE, otherwise only MM.mm'). Precise DMS is entered with 6 digits (DD°MM'SS") for the first set, then the decimal seconds for the second set (.ss"). Precise DDM is entered with 4 digits (DD°MM') for the first set, then the decimal minutes for the second set (.mmmm'). Recluse Posted January 25, 2023 Posted January 25, 2023 (edited) IF you would like to use the DD.MM.SS.ss coordinates for your waypoint creation so it is consistent with GPS weapon PP Coordinate settings, and you can match up the coordinates on the FLIR with the coordinates fed to TOO GPS weapons you can go to: HSI-->DATA-->AC and click on the LATLN Formatting button and Toggle it from DCML to SEC Image below is from Manual and isn't showing PRECISE coordinates, but it works for them.
