OPEN BETA SERVER HANGING IN LOADING SCREEN

Hi folks,

I updated my openbeta server today but then when i went to run it the first time, i inadvertently closed it before it had fully loaded.  Now it gets caught in the loading screen and hangs there indefinitely. I have uninstalled/deleted everything and tried to start over from scratch, but it's still happening.  The log it generates is not very long so I'll just paste it here:

Hi, Invisibull.

I experienced similar crashing on my PC (mine is DCS World 2.8.2.35632 ob client; instead of its server), the final log line is the same about /bin/CockpitBase.dll .

I reported my trouble in another topic

Temporary I switch Windows 10's Language setting into English / United States from Japanese / Japan, then the crashing was solved.

If you can try to change your Language setting of the Windows , test it, even not good solution though ...

It's not just servers, I'm also having that problem as a client!

DCS won't load no matter what! 😕

Thanks for your reply.  Since I did a full reinstall and others seem to be having a similar issue, I think it's pretty likely that today's update is the cause.  Hopefully, there's a fix already in the works.

I changed the language setting to Japanese and it still crashes, so I am reinstalling it now.

Best of luck, but reinstalling did nothing for me.

Just to make sure it's the patch and not something about my computer, I downgraded to the previous openbeta. Runs ok. Update again, same issue.

So definitely the patch it is.

From dcs.log, the last line also is:

2023-01-26 04:11:31.500 INFO    EDCORE (Main): Loaded C:/Games/Steam/steamapps/common/DCSWorld/bin/CockpitBase.dll

And from the previous version's successful launch, the next lines should be:

2023-01-26 03:43:56.006 INFO    ASYNCNET (4408): Login success.
2023-01-26 03:43:56.900 INFO    ASYNCNET (4408): Got auth data.
2023-01-26 03:43:57.090 INFO    APP (Main): Successfully got authorization data.

So I think maybe it's not something about CockpitBase.dll but with the Login part.
The login screen never pops up, even if I clear the network and login related files under Saved Games/DCS.

I wouldn't be so sure a fix is already on the way, since apparently most players are just going on with their lives, and only a handful of us are locked out of DCS by this problem.
Also I haven't seen the mods talking about this anywhere in the Discord or forums. So hey @BIGNEWYcan you give us a little help here?

Things to try,

run a repair on the server / client

rename the saved games dcs folder for the build ( use it as a backup )

restart and login and test.

umm ...

Do you use some Input Method Engine to type non-alphabetical letters ?
I find Google Japanese IME causes my client crashing, but Microsoft J-IME doesn't.
Not Japanese , Not client , your environment maybe much different from mine though, the cause maybe around Windows' Language setting or Keyboard Input setting.

I hope ED will solve this problem DCS client and server can run with any Language or IME again.

Same problem here, here is my log file, i am tryin to launch the game as client in single player.

It doesn't freeze, task manager show active process, but it won't load.

Also what does this mean : "rename the saved games dcs folder for the build ( use it as a backup ) " my DCS saved folder is named DCS...🙄

Hi,

I started by doing all the things you've suggested plus a system restore and none of it helped. I then did a full uninstall, deleted all folders associated with DCS, including the DCS folder within my saved games folder and then did a reinstall from scratch.  None of that changed anything either.  As far as a "full" log - I provided the entire log in my first post.  I'd imagine its brevity is due to the fact that DCS hangs up before a longer log can be generated. DCS is running fine on my PC, but I haven't been able to host a server using the dedicated executable on my server PC since the update.

Since the update, my single player client on my gaming PC is failing in the same way described. The loading logo splash screen shows up (DCS World, Version 2.8.2.35632) and never changes. DCS.exe is at zero percent CPU use and its memory used stays around 120MB. My log looks similar to the one that Darkenmass attached.

I renamed my Saved Games\DCS folder and ran a full repair, including moving extra files to backup. No change, DCS still hangs on launch. I was wrong before though, it does appear to use some CPU. Memory use stays at that low value, though. The log file is identical.

Hi, I tried both things and the results as seen in dcs.log are always the same.

Log is attached, same as above.

Same here, crashes even in opening menu after  a while in VR. Plays fine without VR. Even tried going back to SteamVR, but same there, crashes.

Tried going back to stable and it works fine, but my favorite servers arent on Stable =/

I think it's not the same issue - people here are unable to launch DCS at all, either in 2D, VR or as a dedicated server.

Can you attach your dcs.log just in case?

@BIGNEWY Today's hotfix had no effect on my issue.  The DCS Log is exactly the same and the DCS server is still stuck in the loading screen.

So, the crashing looks related to Windows' Language - Keyboard settings.
In this time I don't change Windows' Language from Japanese to some other though,
Perhaps Language = English / US or UK + Keyboard = English / US or UK (without any 3rd party Input Method Engine) maybe OK for DS.

After your previous report, I tried changing all sorts of regional setttings and input methods on my PC (OS is already English).

Didn't work, even though I  set everything to just English, United States and US Keyboard with default date formats etc.

So the cause can't be exactly the input methods even though it may be related to something like language and regional settings, -or- some 3rd party component that's installed by other applications including Google IME.

I guess the fix wasn't so hot.  So, we wait until the next update and hope for the best?

On the other hand, one other player that was having the same problem, in Discord, said it worked for him after he updated Windows 10 to version 22H2.
Which version is yours? If you want, or can, try updating to 22H2 to see if it fixes the problem.

Hi guys, I updated my Windows 10 Pro from 21H2 to 22H2 and my Open Beta is working again. I also updated to today's hotfix and it is still working. So, it was a windows thing for me. The question remains what ED devs changed from 2.8.1 to 2.8.2 and stable (2.8.1) was working but OB (2.8.2) was stuck. Anyway, my OB seems to be working fine again.
