Seriously considering the Buttkicker Gamer Plus.

Can someone please advise if both the above are required for best performance .

Also if they may work with other non supported games such as Star citizen.

Many thanks

Yes, you need SSA and Sound Module to get your buttkicker running in DCS. But it´s worth the money, André is doing a great job with his software.

Unfortunately I do not know which other games are being supported, maybe you check his website.

if you dont use the software, the buttkicker will rumble based on audio input only, which is about 25% of what you would enjoy if based on telemetry instead.

Personally I prefer the game sound going through 2x Dayton bst-1s. Had SSA and SM, great software but personal preference was running EQ on game sound. Perfectly tuned, matched and in time.

Interesting. How does only game sound simulate gear movement, stalls, air brakes etc.? I was not aware that the game sound differentiates all these individual conditions...

So its what you hear, it is quite subtle in the noises you get as it is low frequency and you often don't consciously hear them but would notice if they weren't there. Anything you hear can go through the shakers. Gear movement is good, airbrakes make that rumbling noise, stalls have less actual motion than SSA but any buffet or shaking is all felt.  I EQ the sound to cut off high frequencies to the shakers and then can increase the volume. Even in the time when the actual motion is less, I find it a much more refined and connected effect, where as SSA felt a bit like a generic BZZZZZZZ. Also SSA could at times be overloaded with effects that is wasn't nice at all, tuning takes far too long and I ended up turning so much off. I also couldn't stand the touchdown being out of sync.

The other thing about game sounds is that there is now feeling for everything, so external noises are quite intense, I feel explosions, bullet hits and sonic booms all in perfect sync. There are also loads of little extras you get some one nice example (that I can think of now) are the guns feel different front seat or back seat in the hind and apache, this is because it sounds different. The front seat of the apache the gun is right under your bum, where in the back its a little less prominent.

Essential to make it work is voicemeeter banana as I route game sound only through to my shakers, and EQ it. I have a second channel not EQ'd for my headset and separate feeds in for all voice comms. This way comms doesn't go through the shakers. I also have a Spotify channel that is away from the shakers!

I also tried both game and SSA together, bringing in a just a few of the SSA effects but this doesn't work at all. They basically either cancel each other out or the SSA just feels a bit unrefined. The main thing that is missing from game sounds is the G-effects but I didn't really like this. Its an add-on effect and the game does this through stalls, buffets in a less-is-more way. If you try it, at first you may not like it but leave it for a little while, start to do your normal things and you won't go back!
