cfrag Posted March 10, 2023 Posted March 10, 2023 I read (in the very interesting MT thread) that supposedly, there should be a choice item to launch DCS as MT in VR. Unfortunately, for Steam users it seems that this option is currently unavailable (launching MT will not support my VR Headset - a Vive - and launch in Desktop theater mode instead): Now, biggest likelihood: me be ham-fisted. What am I doing wrong, or is VR-MT slated for a later release? Thank you for any pointers. 2 1
twistking Posted March 10, 2023 Posted March 10, 2023 (edited) my guess would be, that you have to start dcs.exe "manually" from bin_mt folder and add all your vr commands as arguments to the exe with windows. this is just an educated guess though. 8 minutes ago, twistking said: my guess would be, that you have to start steam dcs with the MT exe from the MT folder (" .../bin-mt\DCS.exe" ?) and force openXR with a windows command line on the exe itself (making a shortcut f.e. and add your argument to the shortcut). hope that helps! Then again, Steam provides developers tools for packaging command lines exactly like this, and I'm doubtful that ED wouldn't have included that already if it was ready. So before I accidentally screw up my DCS install, I think I resign myself to awaiting some word from up high

Koziolek Posted March 10, 2023 Posted March 10, 2023 can it be that the Steam versions is not updated yet?
dutchili Posted March 10, 2023 Posted March 10, 2023 Steam always launches ...\bin\dcs.exe, even if you use a shortcut to the other .exe Help is needed from ED.
Gryzor Posted March 10, 2023 Posted March 10, 2023 Here with my Valve Index performance in OpenXR, in MT, is a stuttering mess (even with motion smoothing on). Much worse that in non MT version. MT will be compatible with SteamVR? 1
Phantom88 Posted March 10, 2023 Posted March 10, 2023 I can’t launch The MT exe. In OpenXR or Steam VR Runtime,The screen freezes on loading similar to what happened when DCS added OpenXR natively. I can run the MT exe. Fine in 2D… I can also Launch/Run DCS in the Regular DCS exe. Weird Patrick
Fauda Posted March 10, 2023 Posted March 10, 2023 I would love to see a Launch VR with Steam VR and mulithreading. Currently I can only launch VR within DCS and it launches Oculus VR for me without my FPS overlay.
Rosly Posted March 10, 2023 Posted March 10, 2023 The probably didn't add the option as it is broken. You can add "--force_steam_VR" to the command line of DCS launched from Steam, in title properties. After checking, can you bump the thread I linked? @cfrag @twistking @dutchili @Gryzor
Sillyrunner Posted March 10, 2023 Posted March 10, 2023 (edited) I have the standalone version and I renamed the bin-mt DCS.exe "DCS.exe --force_steam_VR" and it just breaks the executable. I feel like I'm doing something wrong Edited March 10, 2023 by Sillyrunner

No, its doesnt work. Its an issue. Now. DCS MT works ONLY in api OpenXR, not like single core version (without OpenXR as default). Now only works " --force_enable_VR", not with "steam". Phantom88 Posted March 11, 2023 Posted March 11, 2023 I'm posting this as it might help some Pimax users here....I had forgot I had Pimax VR installed...I switched The Runtime in that App back to Steam VR and now at least I can use that runtime and MT. Patrick
Talyn Posted March 11, 2023 Posted March 11, 2023 Launch the MT preview with steam VR running in the background. Go to options (in DCS) and enable "Virtual reality headset". The game will relaunch and you'll see "Multithread preview" by the version number in the bottom right.
Mike_CK Posted March 12, 2023 Posted March 12, 2023 Thank you for that answer. I couldn’t understand anything the other posters were saying: jusr add $&/:; to your bin5/d4 file and back link your proton thruster so it enable the VXR validator subroutine…..” jesus. Some of us don’t really know how computers work. Has to be a way to press buttons and make it go 1
MadogPL Posted March 15, 2023 Posted March 15, 2023 MT for me is ONLY working when from steam I choose MT version and then choosing the VR headset in settings. It's a laugh a bit as even launching mt/dcs.exe does runs normal dcs.exe. It also screws up my controllers positions, so that's not very nice at all. Waiting for a fix. Hopefully not 2 weeks.
Eugel Posted March 17, 2023 Posted March 17, 2023 I was hoping todays patch would remedy that, but it still does not work with Steam 1
cfrag Posted March 17, 2023 Author Posted March 17, 2023 Same here. No MT launcher in Steam for VR. A bit disappointing as setting up the launcher isn't that difficult for the vendor, and can be done in the publishing front-end. Well, I guess that's ED for you. Let's hope that they eventually get around to fixing this.

Mike_CK Posted March 27, 2023 Posted March 27, 2023 It’s not too hard to do it. Just get your VR apps up and ready to go. Go to steam (2d version) and select the MT option for DCS. Run it. When DCS opens, confirm it says multithreaded version in bottom right, go into options and click on “enable VR headset”. It will close and auto run the MT versus it’s a pain but worth it when I can now play VR in a MP PvP server and get a steady 45fps at 1.3bp. Used to be about 15-25
Eugel Posted March 28, 2023 Posted March 28, 2023 Has this at least been acknowledged as being a bug ? It´s been 2 patches since the MT update, and still no changes. 2
cfrag Posted March 28, 2023 Author Posted March 28, 2023 8 hours ago, Mike_CK said: It’s not too hard to do it. Agreed, not too hard. But decidedly inconvenient. I'm developing missions. That's done in flat. Then I test in VR. Switching already requires a re-start. If a switch now requires a double restart each time, this drives up the annoyance factor a lot - especially since it's quite trivial for ED to provide this option (it requires two clicks in Steampipe, the developer front-end for Steam). 1 hour ago, Eugel said: Has this at least been acknowledged as being a bug ? Unfortunately, I have not seen anything from ED, not even a 'reported' tag. Let's hope that one good day in the future a developer happens by, looks at this issue, and is kind-heartened enough to care and acknowledge it. It's the little things, I know. 1
Eugel Posted March 29, 2023 Posted March 29, 2023 Well I guess it´s one way to get people away from Steam ... 1
