Cezar11 Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 does anyone know where to get ( or even what to ask for ) to get the Cougar grip connector threaded parts? I'm interested in making my own extension.. ( not that Urze's aren't just brilliant..) but I want mine to have a bend in the middle, more akin to a real helo cyclic so it sits more in my lap. With the base under my seat I know the 5 pin connector between the grip and base isn't that hard to obtain. But I have no idea about the nut that secures the grip to the base..... LtFransky Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 You'll have to get one of those machined. I've been looking into it, but it's not cheap. You could talk to the guy at http://www.leftside-limited.com/flightstick_extension-cougar.html and see where he gets his. Be sure to let us know what you find out. Deadman Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 If i remember correctly the tread size is 2x36 same as use on some natural gas connectors if you search over at cougar world http://cougar.frugalsworld.com/ you may find a guy that all read y extended his grip. I purchases a 4inch extension from IJ wen i got the u2 mod works very well for me but it was $100.00 extra. I am extremely happy with its performance though https://forum.dcs.world/topic/133818-deadmans-cockpit-base-plans/#comment-133824 CNCs and Laser engravers are great but they can't do squat with out a precise set of plans.
LtFransky Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 Don't forget that it is metric. M36X2 Ours is not to reason why, but rather to do and die. A man walks into a zoo. The only animal in the entire zoo is a dog. It's a shitzu
Cezar11 Posted February 1, 2009 Author Posted February 1, 2009 Urze is the guy at left-side... no ones heard from him in a few weeks.... I did leave a note in thread that he started about him possibly making a curved extension.. but no response. So I just thought i'd check into doing myself... urze Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 (edited) Hey Urze.. I have a cougar and while I love the idea of an extension for the handle.. I was wondering if you could make something a little more in keeping with a traditional helicopter cyclic....maybe not quite this bendy.. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyclic_pitch but you get the idea... I'm wanting to put my cougar under my seat ( or close to under ) but have the cyclic more "in my lap".... Thoughts? BTW.. if it's not feasible for you to make one... can you tell me where you got the locking nut and screw assembly for the base of the grip and I can give it a shot on making one myself.... Hello Cezar11, Keep in mind that you need a lot stronger springs for the base- so that the finished mod will have still a self centring stick. And the curve of the rod and also the position of the Grip must be very well balanced. Without stronger springs it would be nearly impossible to fly "hands off" with a helicopter... look this video.( the part wit the 31cm extension will explain why you need stronger Springs.) I didn't answer because: -I didn't found the time. -it was absolute off topic in the "Alternative for a Homebuilt Cockpit thread" -I can not calculate the costs for a mod that will maybe not work as planned. -and finally I get every day some mails where the questions goes similar like: "I like your stuff but I need something different. Can you give me the plans and I will get/do the parts myself?..." (:)please don't get me wrong about this - just try to understand me...) If you would get a Standard extension from me you would have already working nuts and also a already extended 5pin connector. Than you only have to get a curved tube yourself and could decide yourself If you need stronger springs for the base. Edited February 1, 2009 by urze Leftside Limited - ideas and solutions
LtFransky Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 I've been doing some screwing around with measuring photos, and comparing them to my cougar. I believe the nut you need is 32.22mm inside diameter (or 1 1/4 inches O.D. for the pipe) with a thread of M36x2. Now this is just conjecture, but I'm a tradesman to I have access to plumbing and gas fittings. I'll test with some actual fittings and let you know what I find. Cezar11 Posted February 2, 2009 Author Posted February 2, 2009 (edited) Hey Urze... I really appreciate your effort and time... In no way, did I mean any offense, I guess I really didn't think about many inane requests like mine you must get per day... I apologize. I wasn't thinking of anything anywhere near 31 cm.... just something around 20 cm with a nice radius in the middle where the chair edge would go. The grip would still be exactly above the cougar base, so balance wouldn't be an issue. I would gladly buy of one your extensions, let me ask you.. do the fittings come off? so i could play around with building my own middle part? On another thought, have you ever taken the handle off of the cougar throttle? I was thinking that if I took off the grip part of the handle and made a right angle plate. I could fit the grip of the throttle back vertically instead of horizontally on the throttle pivot point... then mount the throttle box so it acts like more of a collective where your knuckles are pointed out to the side instead of pointed strait ahead. Wondering how much extra wire there is between the handle and the throttle box..... sorry for rambling :) Edited February 2, 2009 by Cezar11 Home built i5 quadcore. dual ATI 4850 in xfire mode. 16GB ram Warthog HOTAS, Thrustmaster Rudder, TrackIR 5, TM MFD's, windows 7 64 ultimate.. 40" primary screen, 19" secondary [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
