Rudel_chw Posted March 14, 2023 Posted March 14, 2023 Hi, I'm having trouble to get a random INS start position .. I have the option enabled on my mission: However, everytime I run the mission, the PCN shows a correct PP position instead of a random one: Not sure if the problem started on the last DCS Update or not, as this is the first time that I'm trying this random position option. For work: iMac mid-2010 of 27" - Core i7 870 - 6 GB DDR3 1333 MHz - ATI HD5670 - SSD 256 GB - HDD 2 TB - macOS High Sierra For Gaming: 34" Monitor - Ryzen 3600 - 32 GB DDR4 2400 - nVidia RTX2080 - SSD 1.25 TB - HDD 10 TB - Win10 Pro - TM HOTAS Cougar Mobile: iPad Pro 12.9" of 256 GB
Charly_Owl Posted March 14, 2023 Posted March 14, 2023 I'm having the same issue; the initial position is always correct regardless of the option selected. Chuck's DCS Tutorial Library Chuck's Guides on Mudspike Chuck's Youtube Channel Chuck's Patreon

Hi, thanks a lot for confirming … I was starting to believe that it was only me @Vibora please, can you take a look into this issue? .. I was editing an INS training mission when I noticed this, and I can’t find any workaround to have the student enter a manual starting position Edited March 14, 2023 by Rudel_chw For work: iMac mid-2010 of 27" - Core i7 870 - 6 GB DDR3 1333 MHz - ATI HD5670 - SSD 256 GB - HDD 2 TB - macOS High Sierra For Gaming: 34" Monitor - Ryzen 3600 - 32 GB DDR4 2400 - nVidia RTX2080 - SSD 1.25 TB - HDD 10 TB - Win10 Pro - TM HOTAS Cougar Mobile: iPad Pro 12.9" of 256 GB
Solution fausete Posted March 14, 2023 Solution Posted March 14, 2023 Hi guys, If I'm not mistaken this is not an issue. There's a chance that the initial position might still be correct, or even that the error will be smaller than the accuracy of the INS. Then that is compounded with how the RNG works. Basically it will always use the same seed unless you close the game and open it again.

I tested further and you are correct, it just happened that I got the correct coordinates by chance, and then since I was building my mission, I kept test flying and back to editing, but since I never quited DCS, the random correct coordinates just kept showing every time I tried my mission. Now I restarted DCS and my aircraft has this position: ... while the PCN shows a different starting position .. not a large difference, but enough for what I wanted to do: Thanks again for solving this mystery Edited March 14, 2023 by Rudel_chw For work: iMac mid-2010 of 27" - Core i7 870 - 6 GB DDR3 1333 MHz - ATI HD5670 - SSD 256 GB - HDD 2 TB - macOS High Sierra For Gaming: 34" Monitor - Ryzen 3600 - 32 GB DDR4 2400 - nVidia RTX2080 - SSD 1.25 TB - HDD 10 TB - Win10 Pro - TM HOTAS Cougar Mobile: iPad Pro 12.9" of 256 GB
fausete Posted March 14, 2023 Posted March 14, 2023 No problem Rudel, we ran into exactly the same behaviour when testing it and it also confused us at first 1
